Third time I used it, the entire rear of the vise cracked off! I was tightening a car part. The handle was all the way tight. I cranked it a bit more, and then suddenly, the handle was turning EASY. I thought I stripped the nut. Instead, I looked down to seee the rear jaw cracked off with the rear half of the vise.

SHAME ON WILTON FOR PUTTING THEOR NAME ON CHINESE JUNK! Might as well waste your money at Harbor Freight than to buy this one.

And dont think for a second that MASS will make up for a craptastic chinese made vise. Even the heaviest chinese made vise will break. The metal is garbage. LOOKING AT THE BROKEN METAL PARTS, IT IS PURE POT METAL (FOR A VISE!!)

Find a used one at a garage sale. Thats what I ended up doing since Wilton wouldnt honor their warranty!!!

There is a reason LOWES stopped carrying these chinese Wiltons in 2009. THEY ALL CAME BACK BROKEN!!!

STEER CLEAR AND BE SURE IT HAS 'MADE IN USA' CAST INTO THE BODY!

Looks great, weights 40 lbs, nice design , heavy duty??????? I mounted it to my new work bench and the frist time I used it I sheared the main 1/2 inch bolt that holds it together. I returned it because it is not simple to replace the broken bolt without a tap set.

Anyway, amazon was fantastic! They sent UPS to pick-up the vice and refunded my money right away. Still trying to decide if I will reorder the same vice or not. (all ready have the holes drilled and the bolts)

What can I say about the Wilton 6" vise? Well, it's Wilton, so it is top of the line. It performs flawlessly and is by far the best vise I have ever worked with. I was a little concerned buying this vise without actually having it in front of me. I was afraid this model wouldn't be big enough but when it arrived I was more than pleased and was glad I didn't go with the larger model. The price was fair. In fact Amazon was the cheapest I could find online for this model and the delivery was good only being a few days. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this item again if I needed it but thats not likely as I am sure it will outlast me and my kids too!

I broke two vises from Harbor Freight so I decided to try a Wilton. So far it has held up great.

I bought this vise from Amazon as a "one more left" item. After I checked out, the description said no longer available. Then I came back at a later date and it was being carried again. It looked good. My brother had broken my existing 5" vise, and fessed up, and coughed up the money for replacement. Then I saw this 6" Wilton. It looked good in the picture, and when I received it, it looked even better in real life. This is one beautiful piece of equipment. I know that their are better vises out there, that are rated at 60,000 pounds, instead of 25, but if you need a good vise, and you are not making horseshoes for a living :-) then this is the vise for you.
It is made in China, but that is rapidly becoming something to brag about, rather than something to shun. I know that some of the manufacturing is done in China with total cheap in mind, but especially when it is made to Wilton specifications, meaning they either have a factory rep overseeing production, or a clear understanding of the standards that are acceptable, what you get is a very nice piece of equipment. The fifty cent per hour labor rate translates into, in that case, a very nice unit for a very reasonable amount of money.
I don't know what they are replacing it with, and I know that their are some Wilton name vises out there that are less than steller, but this particular model is a beauty. It looks so good, I hesitate to use it. I went into the local Tru Value, and they had a 6 inch vise with ugly silverly black paint running down the side. This one is tightly made, and nicely done in all respects of the finish work. It is not a polished chrome Snap on Wrench, but hey it's a vise.
Overall highly recommended. If you can find one, grab it.

When I began taking on projects that required size, stability, and accuracy, I ordered the 6" Wilton Vice. This vice is large enough to hold a muzzleloader's with or without the barrel and strong and stable enough to allow very delicate work on it. It is extremely heavy, which is a big plus in this case.

I highly recommend it. Wilton also backs their products very well.

Don't know why some one would give this vice a thumbs down. I may not pound on it like some folks might, but for my needs (a custom fishing plug builder) it far exceeds my expectations. I have no idea if I'll say the same thing after 60 years (the age of my previous vice) I will definitely not be using it in 2068...more than likey I'll be looking at the grass from the brown side :>) I give it a 4...because nothing man- made is perfect.

Excellent Vice. Much more product for the $$ than other similar vices. Highly recommend.

My husband was very pleased with this vise that I got him for his birthday. It's a solid vise (very heavy) and appeared to be very well made and perfect to aide my husband in making furniture and various building projects. It was a great price at $64 plus free shipping. Other places were charging a lot more and shipping would have been around $40+ .

great vice well made except base did not set level thought would pull into bench but still sat high on one side took 7" grinder over it remounted works great would recomend to any one who needs a good vice for the money
