Not QUITE as good as Panavise...,
By
This review is from: Wilton 63501 Hobby Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
but it is alot less expensive. This is made from plastic as those who read the description know. The actual screw and other "mechanical" parts are steel where necessary. The comparable Panavise is all aluminum and steel and when purchased with the vacuum base is THREE times the price of this Wilton product (BTW it arrives packaged as "Columbian" brand - that is Jet / Wilton, so don't go Ape #*!^ when you see that). The vacuum is good IF you find a "smooth, clean, NON POROUS" surface to attach the vacuum base to. Some dining room tables, wooden work benches are to porous or rough but this true with the Panavise vacuum base too, as I suspect ALL vacuum items would have the same problem holding to. I compare this with the Panavise brand since you probably arrived at this item page after you saw the price for Panavise hobby vises. The Wilton tilts, rotates, locks in desired position, etc as does the Panavise. There is a little more "play" with the plastic Wilton vise when really applying elbow grease or torque while sanding, etc. But you probably should be using a bolted down shop bench vise if that's what you need to accomplish your work. This unit is for "lightweight" tasks. So is the Panavise. Overall, you should be able to tell I'm satisfied with this purchase, 1/3rd the cost with basically the same features and capacity as the other brand. John Row in1ear
