Not the same as the pan with this model number in 2007,

This review is from: Wilton 8-Inch-by-2-Inch Round Cake Pan (Kitchen)
I bought two of this pan in 2007 and love them. They're my go-to pans for baking cakes. Last summer, I had a recipe that made three cake layers. I decided to bake them all at once, so I picked up a comparable looking pan (also made by Wilton) at a local store. When I got it home, I found the new pan was considerably lighter than the other two, and when I baked my cakes, the layer in the new pan had cooked more quickly. I gave that pan away and headed back to Amazon to get a pan to exactly match the two I already had. Came to the Amazon product page and sure enough, there was the banner telling me I had bought this pan in Sept 2007. I ordered. This weekend, I made the cake again, using my three "matching" pans.
The first thing I noticed was the new pan weighs about 7 grams less than the original two. This wouldn't be an issue, except that I usually weigh the pans to confirm that each has the same amount of batter. It was kind of a nuisance to remember the tare was different for one of the pans, and then to keep track of which was the lighter pan as I was adjusting. All three layers baked evenly. All three layers released easily (I prepare my pans with butter, parchment, butter again, flour). Finally, the real problem came when I was assembling my cake. One of my layers was visibly smaller in diameter than the others! I don't know if the objective size of the new pan is slightly smaller or if the layer in the new pan baked just enough more that it shrank slightly more. In any case, the difference was enough that other two layers had to be trimmed down to match. Bottom line for me: the pan is fine by itself. By itself, I'd have given it four stars for its quality. Also, this pan is considerably better than the other Wilton pan I had originally added, for about the same price. However, Wilton has changed the pan enough in just three years that it really isn't the same pan that I already had, even though the model numbers are the same. I had to deduct a star for lack of consistency across their product line. This pan should have its own product number.

Great product....superior quality,

Hard to find 8" cake pans!! I trusted Wilton's name and bought these for myself for Christmas. :0) Great finds....almost don't need greasing. Even baking, superb quality. Don't have a "chemical" smell like some I'd tried (which leaked into the food....ugh.). Great buy!

I had been looking for quality pans for some time. I have used
Wilton since I was quite young and have always been pleased. I liked these pans because of their 2 inch sides...nice, even, high layers! After cooking there's none of that ugly discoloration and they clean very easily.
