Nice basic booklet., June 22, 2008
This review is from: Wilton 902-1066 40-Page Soft-Cover Cake-Decorating Guide, Fondant and Gum Paste (Kitchen)
This little booklet is short and sweet. It offers some basic tools, methods, and projects for working with fondant to decorate cakes. Best is the section on making gum paste carnations. The only downside is that it is geared towards Wilton products, so there are no "from scratch" recipes, which would be really nice. The only recipe is for a buttercream that uses a Wilton powder mix, and I'd rather just make mine from scratch. Also, the Wilton fondant is terrible, so you'll want to get another brand or make your own before trying out the techniques in this book.

Good Book, but Advertisement for Wilton Products, March 9, 2010
This review is from: Wilton 902-1066 40-Page Soft-Cover Cake-Decorating Guide, Fondant and Gum Paste (Kitchen)
I have limited experience working with fondant. Everything I learned, I learned on my own or through videos online. So when I purchased this book, if you want to call it that (it's more like a pamphlet), I was really excited to to learn new techniques and ways of doing things.
What I like and appreciate about this book is that it explains all of the Wilton tools and what they do. But beware, it doesn't go into great depth about tools--just a simple explanation next to the picture. I was looking more for a book that would explain more about what each tool does and various effects that can be created. This was simply an advertisement for Wilton products, which is fine, but I wish I had known that prior to purchasing the book. In retrospect,I really should have known since it is a Wilton book.
This is a great book for beginners, but moreseo, for children who really want to get into cake decorating with fondant. Apparently this book accompanies a class in real life because the reader is asked several times to speak with our instructor.
All in all, this is a good book for learning how to handle Wilton fondant, how to make a few floral designs, how to cut ribbons using the Wilton ribbon cutter, how to color and dye fondant, how to drape fondant to make it appear like fabric, and even includes simple buttercream recipes.
The cake designs, in my opinion, are really not that impressive. Much of the book includes simplistic designs incorporating cut-outs and draping.
While it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, this book does serve as an excellent starting point and even if you don't particularly like the designs, it can steer your imagination toward another direction.
Thanks for reading. This is just my opinion.:)

The books I purchased were not worth what I paid. I will pay more attention to the number of pages when I purchase anything else. They were over $6.00 apiece, and NOT WORTH WHAT I PAID! VERY DISAPPOINTED!! I should have rated it a minus!
