For years the only option available to me for round baking pans was the Wilton brand. I was satisfied with their performance but I really had nothing else to compare them to. Shopping on Amazon allowed me access to a number of brands and based on reviews I decided to try the Magic Line brand. This review is a head to head comparison of the Magic Line 6 x 2 inch pan and the Wilton 6 x 2 inch pan. Wilton is made in China. Magic Line is made in the USA. The Wilton pan actually fits inside my Magic Line so I decided to measure them. When I measured both pans from side to side, the Magic Line Pan had an interior diameter of 6.024 inches. Wilton measured 5.90 inches. I used a digital caliper for the measurements. I could also feel the difference in weight between the two pans so I used my postal scale to weigh them. The Magic Line pan weighs 5.9 ounces while Wilton comes in at 3.2 ounces. Because of the differences in the pans, I wanted to compare them in actual baking. I put two cups of vanilla batter in each prepared pan, attached the Wilton bake even strips and baked them side by side in my oven for 45 minutes at 350 degrees Farenheit. The cake in the Wilton pan did not rise as tall as the other and had a small but pronounced hump in the center. I had to cut off/level the top so that it would sit flat on the cake board. The cake was darker in color on both the top and bottom. The cake from the Magic Line pan was almost completely flat. The taste test revealed both pans had done a good job in baking the cakes. There was no discernible difference in taste, and both were nicely baked without being dry. Also, both pans have straight sides. At one time I had about ten Wilton Round pans in two and three inch depths. All of them had dents from being dropped at one time or another.Read more ›

this pan is nice quality and very easy to work with. Pleased with my purchase. Used the wilton's website for batter estimate and cooking instructions as nothing came with this pan in the way of guidance of how much batter to use etc. It was recommended on the site to fill 1/2 to 2/3 with the batter and from my experience i would say 1/2 is the way to go. when filled at 2/3 it bubbled over the pan and made a mess on the oven floor. Ultimately though the cake still came out wonderful. highly recommend.

The glue they use on side labels is a nightmare to remove! Be prepared to spend hours scrubbing off the adhesive used to bond the new 2nd decals on sides of pans. I tried soaking pans in hot water to no avail. Top layer of paper came off with a brillo pad, more hard scrubbing revealed second layer and bonding agent.

I was making a multi layer cake, and wanted to have a small circumference. These were the perfect size and the cakes came out perfectly.

Nice appearance - cooks evenly - the only problem was the sticker that was on the pan. It was very difficult removing the glue residue.

Not as good as some of my older wilton pans, not as bad as some others I've tried. They easily hold 2 cake mixes each.

Pans are fine it's the glue they use inside and outside to attach the labels. Bad enough the labels on the outside don't come off but the inside round label doesn't either. They use a glob of sticky jelly type adhesive, most cake pans do use that, but it didn't come off. I mean DIDN'T come off. I used paint thinner, scotch brite, a metal spatula and finally gave up. Don't use paint thinner, it doesn't remove the jelly blob and the pans actually absorb the smell. I think the pans were sitting around at the store for a long, long time and that's why the jelly glob wouldn't come off. Usually, it's easy to remove a label that's just put on with a jelly glob and the glob comes right off. The outside labels don't come off so you might as well forget it and bake with the labels on. I just didn't want the glue inside to be there when I baked a cake so I had to try remove it. Next time I'll buy from a store where there is a faster turn around in sales and maybe the pans haven't been sitting around for years. I do think that's why the jelly didn't come off.
