I love baking cookies. It's my hobby and I make more cookies than I could possibly eat. Making the simple spritz is something that I have never made before so I wanted to buy in inexpensive press to see if I would like it. I read the reviews prior to buying so I was leery and didn't know what to expect but I liked the price. I didn't use the recipe on the box because I have a cookie "bible" that I always get my recipes from. (please see end of review for recipe- it's a keeper, trust me!)
In the end, everything about this press was easy and quick. For so many times of rolling and molding and dropping cookies to be able to simply place and squeeze was a welcome change. The tube was easy to fill, the trigger was accurate and the cookies were cute. I will note that in order for the trigger to work the plunger teeth *must* be facing the handle. Nowhere in the directions does it say this and I was confounded when it wasn't clicking at first. After fooling for a minute I figured out what I needed to do. The trigger was comfortable and easy to use. Even my 4 year old helped. Every cookie looked like a clone of the next. Taking note of the reviews of broken plastic pieces I was very aware of how tight I was tightening the threads as I believe that was the cause of the problem with many of these reviewers. The rings only need to be finger tightened. There is no need to give an extra twist to make it air tight. The press actually need a bit of air exchange in order to work properly so it is probably why reviewers were also having problems with dough leaking around the rings. I hope this helps some make a decision, I had no problems with my press and I believe it will be a good one to have for the yearly Christmas cookie bake marathon! Christmas Spritz 2 1/4 cup flour 1/4 tsp salt 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar 1 cup butter, softened 1 egg 1 tsp almond extract 1 tsp vanilla extract food coloring, optional Preheat to 375. Mix butter and powered sugar in mixer bowl and beat until creamy. Beat in flavorings and egg. Gradually add flour and salt until well blended. Tint if desired. Bake for 10 minutes or until just set and not yet brown.

Works well, easy clean up,

Unlike the other reviewer, I've had no problems for many years. I use the cookie recipe provided on the box, roll a bit of dough into a log, fill the tube, and do one click per cookie. One tube-full is about 2.5 dozen cookies, ish (about one cookie-sheet full--yes, the cookies are of dainty size). Ten minutes in the oven and you're done! The first cookie per tube-full is weird-shaped (okay, for the cook!) but the others do well. Clean up is pretty straightforward: twist off the cap, pop out the cookie-shape insert, twist off the tube and wash.

Worked great -- for two batches,

This cookie press was easy to use and made nicely shaped cookies, but the plastic ring collar broke in the middle of the second batch of cookies. We used the recipe on the cookie press box and our dough was well-softened and not very stiff, so I don't think we in any way abused the cookie press. It's simply a poor design. That's too bad; I'd be happy to pay a little more for a higher-quality product.

Sorry; not to my liking...,

Unfortunately, this did not live up to the 'ease of use' it was supposed to be. I had a very hard time with the 'trigger' not pushing the dough thru, had to repeatedly plunge it to get the dough out. After awhile my hand actually hurt! Went back to my old Mirro twister type. Sorry

Very picky, then it broke,
This review is from: Wilton Comfort Grip Cookie Press (Kitchen)
Mine was very picky about the amount of flour in the dough - had to be just right for the cookies to come out properly. Today the barrel broke clean in two just below the top threads while I was squeezing out the 5th cookie of the batch. I only got about 4 batches of cookies out of the thing. Guess $10 doesn't buy much these days. :o(

Best cookie press ever!,

I don't get it. Maybe I got a good one and a lot of people here didn't? Maybe I'm doing something different than the rest of you? I've been making tons of cake mix cookies and peanut butter cookies ever since getting this press a few years ago. It's so comfortable and easy to use, I won't go back to my other presses, which, while they appear to be more sturdy, are a whole lot harder on the hands than this one. Some tips in case you need them:
1) Press only on cool baking sheets. Cookies won't stick to the sheets if they are hot. 2) Soft dough is better than stiff dough. Mine is too soft to make a log. I spoon it in and use my spoon to press out any air pockets. Dough that is too stiff has a hard time sticking to the pan and it doesn't like to come out of the press. 3) Melt your butter entirely. Don't follow the suggestion to only soften or melt half. If you don't want the cookies to spread, refrigerate them when you have them in the pan. 4) Be prepared to put at least one cookie every sheet back into the bowl. It seems like when I put the press down between pans, I wind up with too much dough coming out on the next cookie. I hope this helps some one. This is a really great press and it will treat you well as long as you are careful with it.

Didn't last,
This review is from: Wilton Comfort Grip Cookie Press (Kitchen)
Well, I tried this other Wilton cookie press becuase the stainless steel one wore down. The comfort grip handle was great! The only problem is that the plastic collar split in the middle after the 4th batch. The dough started oozing out and I ended up having to get rid of it. I'm still searching for a press that won't break - I go through one every year.

Bought this one last year because of price, appearance and description. Made a lot of cookies last year and this year, and worked great until recently. It was too good to be true. The bottom part cracked due to usage, cheap plastic. You get what you pay for in this case. It's hard to find a good cookie press nowadays. But I definitely won't but this brand again.

Works great! So easy even I can do it!,
This review is from: Wilton Comfort Grip Cookie Press (Kitchen)
First of all I don't know why I bought this thing, I'm not much of a cookie maker. If I ever do "make cookies" I might occasionally get the pre-made dough you break off a few pieces of and put them on a little pan and stick them the toaster oven. But I ran into this thing and saw the different shapes it could make and for such a low price... I checked out some YouTube videos and it looked cool as hell! I had to try it out. (plus it didn't cost much and it looks like a caulking gun and I know how to use them..)
I had looked online for a recipe for it since what little research I did told me it needs a certain type of cookie dough to work well with it. I found one on the Wilton site that looked easy and should taste fine, butter, sugar, vanilla flavoring, egg, and flour. Simple. And the very first time I used it it worked like a charm! And with the recipe I used these things are so tender and tasty, they melt in your mouth. But now I've got enough cookies of all kinds of different shapes, plus enough left over cookie dough to feed an army! I'm going to try the cheese cracker type next with some jalapeno flavor in there... Should be good. ***Some of the negative reviews I've read must have been using the wrong kind of dough with it because from my experience with it there is NO WAY you can break this thing with the right kind of cookie dough. The dough is just too soft and smooth and flows out too easily to possibly damage this really sturdy and well made cookie press..*** |
