This cake pan was very easy to use and came with easy to follow directions.

The clips that hold it together are very tight (if you have weak or arthritic hands, forget it) but I guess that's why it didn't leak.

And even if the 2 pieces fit well with no gaps the cake batter still oozes out from everywhere on the pan.

I purchased this to do a teddy bear for my daughter's first birthday. I wanted to do a trial run first, so I decided to do an Elmo for my niece who is a huge fan and is sick this week (a little get well soon cake). So I followed the directions for cake mixes that came with it, and it worked out great. I also used the icing recipe they provided, added lots of red food coloring, and we had an Elmo (after cutting off the teddy bear's ears). A little fondant for eyes and nose, and some laffy taffy firecrackers (4th of July party) and he's ready to go. I'm sure the crowd will love it. Will submit the teddy photo after that party, hopefully it will turn out as good, if not better. My only complaint is the form didn't go together as tightly as I would have liked, one of the feet was warped and we had some spillage. The over-run batter burned on the pan, but I soaked it for an hour and it cleaned up fine.

I have to say that this is definitely not my favorite cake pan but with the help of the reviews from the website and a couple tries I finally was able to get it to work.

Here are a few steps I followed along the way and my suggestions.
1. Follow all the directions. I made both a pound cake and vanilla cake from scratch and mixed them together. I also used a pound cake box mix and a vanilla cake box mix... Both cakes were tasty and worked in the pan (though the homemade tasted the best.)
2. I actually bought this pan, tried it out, failed miserably and returned it. Half of the cake mixture leaked out the bottom. I was I credibly disappointed and in a panic because a friend ordered a Shrek cake from me for next wknd (I was going to turn the bear into Shrek.) This cake pan was my only idea without using fondant for this cake... I decided to buy another cake pan (checked the quality before I left the store) and tried it again. The pan wasn't prefect so I stuffed a little bit of tin foil as I placed it together. I also wrapped the head of the cake in tin foil (including two of the clips) in hopes that it would not leak. It actually did a pretty good job. There was still some dough that leaked out but all in all it turned out well.

Good luck!!

I bought this set last minute before my Granddaughter's birthday because she saw it online & "just had to have this". I paid the express shipping to be sure I had it but had a major disappointment on receipt. I could not even get all the clips on the sides due to the way the ends were bend outward and when I did get it together best as it would allow I had big open areas that would allow the batter to run right out. So much for express shipping to save time of running around locally to find this--I had to run to the neareast craft shop to buy one anyway as I could not use this one. I made the clerk take it out of the box at the store and we checked the other one and that was fine. The pan was very easy to use once I had one that was not defective and the cake baked up beautifully. My Granddaughter loved it! Needless to say the defective one went back.

I made this for my son's first birthday, and it was a huge hit with the kids and parents alike. I even attached a balloon to the bear's hand, which looked very neat.
The pan was easy to use, but it does take some work to get the clips on. It also helps to follow the instructions to the letter as far as letting out the steam once the cake is out of the oven.
I have a feeling we'll be using this pan for many birthdays to come!

I thought that cake batter would leak all over, but this pan actually worked out pretty well. I used Pam for baking and the cake slid right out. The clips that hold it together are very tight (if you have weak or arthritic hands, forget it) but I guess that's why it didn't leak. Not an easy cake to decorate, though. If you have the patience, go for it.

I bought this to make a Christmas Bear cake for my office Christmas Party. Everyone was very impressed. I used the cake mixture that was suggested in the instructions (part pound cake/part 1 layer cake). Had some difficulty getting the clips on, but using a pair of needle nose pliers helped a lot. I'm guessing placement of the clips is key to helping prevent spillage. Will have to work on this. I also had to bend some sections of the sides to make them meet to my standards (holding it together without batter inside showed some gaps). Not a big deal as pan is somewhat pliable. Core was a little bit of a pain, but that could be due to my lack of experience with this kind of cake pan. I put this bear cake on a 10" red velvet cake "base" since I wasn't sure of the head count. Turned out great. One warning though, give yourself plenty of time to decorate this. It took me 4.5 hours to put stars on (one star at a time). But having said that, I would definitely recommend this pan to anyone who bakes cakes.

Putting it together before doing anything you can see this doesn't even come close to lining up. Spent over an hour with some tools trying to straighten this thing out. It wouldn't pass the water test. Tried a cake that ended up in a total disaster. tried to seal it up with duct tape and use it as a giant jello mold, even with all my work and duct tape, clasps... still leaked. Biggest waste of money I have ever spent.
