It's just that simple - the plastic cookie scoops will break with use (as mine did after a few months of use), and they tend not to have a spring on the inside to release the dough from the scoop. You will end up having to pry the handles apart with both hands, which is incredibly tiresome if you are making more than just a few cookies. Look for an all-metal scoop with a wheel on the bottom and a heavy-duty spring between the handles. Oxo makes one with comfy grips, and Norpro also makes all-metal scoops with springs in a variety of sizes. A plastic scoop is only good for the once-in-a-blue-moon baker looking for a quick fix, but for a few dollars more you will have the scoop of a lifetime.

My wife picked this up at a local store and decided to give it a try. The thing simply doesn't work, or at least not with cookie dough...
Totally worthless and a waste of money! Stay away!

I purchased this through a local store, but it is so horrible, I decided to review this on here to save people money. I tried it out on some cookie dough and the medal scraper in the scoop kept bending. When I tried to clean it, the scraper fell out of the plastic scoop. It would be worth the extra money to buy a better version for cookies.

The scoop was broke when we received it. A part must be missing because it will not stay together. If a part is not missing, then it is a very poorly made scoop.

This was supposed to be a stocking stuffer, but it was so cheaply made I would not give it as a gift. I actually purchsaed 2 of these. Now they are both sitting in a box marked junk!

I found these on clearance in a store. I bought four. Well, it took all four to get through one batch of cookies. Even the metal broke on one! These are just trash. Wilton should be ashamed.

Do not buy this item, you certainly get what you pay for. I spent more time trying to pry the cookie dough out of this scoop then it took to make or bake the cookies. The metal slider does not completely move around the scoop, and dough easily sticks behind the metal slider. Either spend a little more and get a decent scoop or just use a tablespoon.

A plastic gear on a metal shaft, never seen it work yet. And this is no exception. The gear stripped on the shaft on the very first cookie I tried to drop with it. Yet another example of how manufacturers are producing lower, and lower quality products.
