Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Wired households and small-business owners will love the WinProxy 3.0 five-user package. This sleek, easily installed software will let you plug up to five PCs into the same (presumably, although not necessarily, high-speed) Internet connection.

By far, the hardest part of using WinProxy 3.0 is setting up the LAN, which you have to take care of separately and beforehand; after that's behind you, load up the surprisingly small program (about 25 MB), configure it, and start browsing. As a special blessing to administrators, Ositis Software has made WinProxy 3.0 nearly transparent to most users. Rarely, the user or admin will have to reconfigure software, but the clear, abundant documentation make that task fairly simple.

WinProxy 3.0 provides a six-month subscription to Trend Micro's antivirus updates and Smart Computing's filtering definitions, so that you don't have to worry about sneaky attachments or unauthorized browsing. In fact, in addition to blacklisting, admins can create "whitelists" that restrict browsing to a prescribed set of sites, which is useful for schools or homes with children. With the power of a proxy server to reduce bandwidth use and the ease of use of a NAT server, WinProxy is unbeatable for most small networks. --Rob Lightner

4.0 out of 5 stars Winproxy 3.0, April 17, 2000

WinProxy 3.0 is an extremely useful tool for linking several computers to a single modem for internet access. Just set up the TCP/IP protocol on Win 9x machines, and then load the software. The set up on the machine which acts as the server is simple. The software even prompts you to test the settings during the setup process. We are running the software on a network which is also running Netware 4.1 and there are no conflicts. This software was a good low cost alternative to a proxy server or modification of our existing Netware server.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Product - a must buy!, June 20, 2000
This review is from: WinProxy 3.0 (5-user) (CD-ROM)
Very easy to install with a ton of documentation for both WinProxy and how to build a LAN. It was the perfect product for getting all the computers in my home online and worked great with my cable modem. Generally, I have found that any problems I had were a result of my own misconfiguration of my LAN, not due to the product. I looked on WinProxy's home page for other customer comments have to say that I am in complete agreement with them.
