3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
The Collectors Only series are a very useful, handy, well put together group of books. I recently purchased the 3 in the Winchester group, volume 1 covering 1866, 73, and 76, the next of the 92 & 86, the third on the 94 and 95.
I already own the George Madis Winchester Book, which is certainly the definitive work on the subject, as well as "the first winchester", a...

The Collectors Only series are a very useful, handy, well put together group of books. I recently purchased the 3 in the Winchester group, volume 1 covering 1866, 73, and 76, the next of the 92 & 86, the third on the 94 and 95.
I already own the George Madis Winchester Book, which is certainly the definitive work on the subject, as well as "the first winchester", a very informative study of the 1866.
The collectors only series was more or less a reader's digest version on Madis' book, but without the great illustrations. Certainy not meant to entertain, but to inform, I did find the drawings a bit crude, and think they could have easily been replaced with photography which would make for a far more enjoyable reference book.
They are, however, very well laid-out, and easy to find the basic information you may be seeking. Certainly the format does not allow for a great deal of detail regarding the vast numbers of variations available for most models, which, at least to me, is the most interesting part of collecting Winchesters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Purchase, July 24, 2007
This review is from: Winchester Lever Action Repeating Firearms : The Models of 1866, 1873 & 1876 (For Collectors Only) (Paperback)
This book is detailed, organized and more than worthy of the purchase price. Every owner/shooter of an original or reproduction 1876 rifle or carbine needs this book.
