Book Description

March 2004 Winchester Classics
Winchester Slide Action Rifles is brimming with thorough detailed information - exploring receivers, barrels, markings, stocks, stampings and engravings of the favorite slide-action guns of America. This first edition of the "Winchester Classics" series features an exhaustive history - told through the eyes of respected firearms expert Ned Schwing - of Winchester's innovative and very popular slide-action.22 caliber rifles, including models 1890, 1906, 61, and 62. With an entirely new index, new color photos, a new introduction, and updated information, this classic reference volume combines what was previously a two-volume set into one complete volume. Hundreds of photographs show the development, mechanical features (inside and out) and variations of various slide-action rifles and present an abundance of other details. This reference is filled with valuable data including serial numbers, production and sales figures, retail prices and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boys' dream come true, February 7, 2007
This review is from: Winchester Slide Action Rifles (Winchester Classics) (Paperback)
Ever since shooting a Winchester slide-action rifle in a shooting gallery, it has been my dream to own such a rifle. After many, many years, I finally came across a used Winchester Model 61 that I could buy. A large part of the enjoyment, however, comes from reading up on the history of this type of weapon. I find it fascinating to be able to establish the year the rifle was made and to check whether all the parts are authentic because they were made in the same time-frame.
