4.0 out of 5 stars Winchester For Over A Century, May 15, 2000
This review is from: Winchester for over a Century: The Winchester I Have Owned or Have Come to My Attention: 003 (Hardcover)
I am a small collector of Winchester Rifles and Carbines. I have over the last forty years collected and traded a fair number of these fine firearms. For a long time I relied upon my best judgement in being able to pick out the best guns by using my eye and past expierence in choosing the authentic versions from the counterfeits. As time goes by and the prices of the fine antique models continue to skyrocket it becomes imperiative that a person be an expert in picking the right piece with out the worry of buying a counterfeit. Many times I've not seen the actual piece that I'm interested in except in pictures. So when I see one at a gun show or in an auction. I rely on The Bill West book "Winchester For Over A Century)for researching Winchester Antique firearms.Mainly I specialize in the models 1892 and 1894 but,I have recently started to look at the Models 1866 and 1873.With This Bill West book I can be comfortable in jumping to a new interest without fear of making a costly buying error. I like the way he breaks down the variations from the first through the stages of production of the individual models. He pictures the areas of change and he places the models stacked together so the small variances from one to the next are illustraited as described in the text. I consider this book the bible of Winchester collecting.
