1.0 out of 5 stars Husband unhappy.
I ordered this French Fry cutter for my husband as a Father's Day gift. I chose this one because of the positive reviews. I must have received a "lemon." The cutter is very, very, very difficult to use. My husband almost had to stand on the lever to push the potato through, yes...he mounted it for more leverage. After cutting three potatoes the blades bent. Sad, he has...

This is a serious piece of kitchen equipment.

We make lots of "french fries" by baking them in the oven to keep them more healthful than the greasy ones you can buy in the store. Cutting them up by hand was time consuming and inconsistent, so we bought one of these to see what it could do.

This thing cuts serious french fries with no problems. We can cut enough fries in 30 seconds to feed four people (about 8 or 9 potatoes). It takes longer to peel the potatoes than it does to cut them LOL. It also takes longer to clean out the cutter than it does to cut the potatoes. But anyway, the cutter does a great job.

Be advised that I had to screw this thing down to an oak board to keep it stabilized for cutting. You don't want to try working this just sitting on the counter top because it takes quite a pull to push the potatoes through. I clamp the board to the kitchen counter with a C clamp and it works great. This is not a flimsy toy but a serious machine. It weighs 15 pounds, probably 20 including the oak plank.

It takes a hefty pull to push the potatoes through the cutters, but it isn't difficult once you get the knack of it. If you make lots of fries, this machine will get the job done.

I bought this cutter from KegWorks via Amazon. They also have additional cutters available in case you need sizes other than 3/8 inch. You can get additional cutters for 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch fries as well. The cutters are easily interchangeable using a standard phillps screwdriver.

This is a somewhat expensive kitched appliance, but you get what you pay for. I read too many reviews telling how the cheaper cutters simply break right away. That won't happen with this one because it is made of metal not cheap plastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality throughout, May 2, 2008

Pricey but you get what you pay for. I have always wanted to make my own frys and finally bought a $15 Fleet farm plastic cutter, 1/2 small potatoe later I was trying to pull the remains out of the bent broken carcass that was once a french fry cutter. Boxed it up for return, went home and got online and did my research.

I was missing a nut for assembly so a quick call to kegworks and they sent me a set of suction feet for my trouble! I will be doing business with them again.

I am now using this for all my dicing. Carrots, apples, rutabegas, onions anything you can think of has no problem.

And finally the dreaded "Clean-up" It IS quick simple and painless.

4.0 out of 5 stars What I always wanted., September 17, 2007
Nice unit when I finally settled on the price. Be careful when you buy. There is a unit with "French Fry Cutter" molded into the handle that is advertised.I wanted that one but they sold me the Weston. They seem to all have the same advertisement with a different price. I bought mine for $42.50 plus $15.00 S&H. It's good. It's just not as authentic. It's a pain to clean (old toothbrush seems to do good) but it sure does the job. I haven't used another so I can't compare it. I recommend you mount it for the pull needed is quite hefty. I love it and the fries are great.
Happy french fry cutting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Product is great, seller so so, December 26, 2009

The Cut French Fry Cutter is a solid piece of equipment that will last a very long time. Loved the smoothness of the mechanism. No potatoe is safe with this french fry cutter!
Disappointed with the seller as the heavy French Fry Cutter came in a flimsy cardboard box that had holes where the feet and handle had punched out of it. We were lucky that the screw that came with the device and which was loose in the box had not fallen out.
It should have been double boxed.
Overall, great product, not so great seller.

I got this for my husband because he loves restaurant fries made from fresh potatoes. This did not disappoint. We mounted it in our breakfast/pantry room on the wall, so a big pull of the handle instantly cuts the fries.

Heavy duty, been working fine so far (2 months), if you are going to eat french fries, why not make the best? we mounted ours on a piece of plywood, for one hand operation use 2 c clamps to attach plywood to kitchen counter

5.0 out of 5 stars strong ff cutter, February 26, 2011
This review is from: French Fry Cutter, 3/8'' Cut
This ff cutter possesses superior design and quality materials--like something not seen in fifty years, unless you pay twice as much or more to get a much less convenient larger size not needed in a home kitchen.

4.0 out of 5 stars This one will last, January 11, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: French Fry Cutter, 3/8'' Cut
This cutter works as expected and will certainly last a long time compared to the plastic cutters. It is heavy and, as others have commented, fixing it onto a flat base should ease its use I haven't had problems using it unattached. I've used it with decently-sized potatoes and other veggies and have not had to use too much force to cut. I'll keep an eye on the blades as they seemed to bend slightly after a few uses. The most annoying part is the cleaning. Removing the front part is easy enough, though it takes some care. The part that pushes is harder to clean since it needs to be unscrewed. So far I have opted instead to clean it with a brush but it still is messy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give it a fry., October 21, 2011

This produce does the trick. The old method of cutting potatoes for french fries is passe with this item. It is a bit pricy but it will also outlast most marriages (assuming you are not LDS). It is an excellent device for hammering out perfect french fries in a heartbeat. Easy to clean but you may need to mount it somewhere to make the process easier. Mine is mounted in the garage right inside the door along with a shelf located directly underneath for the bowl to catch the fries. Fun and easy. Highly recommended!
