In this romantic tale, set in a tiny, picturesque Carribean Island, author Layle Giusto matches an African American dancer with an handsome, powerful islander. Jock Faucon is the type of man who brings out the sensual side of a woman. The popular ritual of traveling to the islands to have a romantic "fling" is enticing when you read this novel. Laurie Warner, the story's central character is struggling with her overwhelming feelings about Jock, who has "pledged not to marry" among other committments. In this "first novel", Giusto takes the reader along on a romantic adventure that is difficult if not impossible to put down. Packed with passion and raw emotion, I read this book on a Saturday and eventually cancelled my plans to go shopping. I strongly suggest that you read this title, if you really love a "true romance".

I had never read a romance novel before. A friend suggested that I give this book a read. I was somewhat cynical about a romance novel, but I was really surprised that I was pulled right into the characters and their lives. At one point I actually cried. This was a surprisingly good read and fun. I recommend it and I am not a woman.

"Wind Across Kylmari" is Layle Giusto's first novel. For Giusto's fans, it's a pleasure to see from whence she came (and to watch her talent develop over the last five years through her later work). The novel is set in the idyllic Bahamas. Dancer Laurie Warner is immediately attracted to Jock Faucon, an enigmatic, autocratic businessman/farmer. Laurie is an innocent, with virtually no past. Her parents are dead, she has no other relatives. Jock is a man of the world, educated at Cornell, scion of a prominent Bahamian family. Almost everyone on Kylmari is a relative. She has no preconceived notions about their relationship; he has too many. Their road to true love is not smooth. There are many snakes in their garden paradise. "Wind Across Kylmari," is an adventure romance. Readers are drawn into a web of love amid drug smuggling and deception. While her later books urban romances, "Sweet Promise," "Home Fires" and "Something So Right," draw upon her Queens (NY) surroundings, it would be nice to return to the slower paced romance that only time in the Caribbean can develop.

THIS BOOK IS GREAT!I FELT LIKE I WAS THERE AND KNEW THE CHARACTERS. IT WAS VERY DESCRIPTIVE AND SEDUCTIVE. I HAD A HARD TIME PUTTING THE BOOK DOWN. MS. GUISTO IS VERY TALENTED AND I HOPE SHE WILL CONTINUE TO ENTERTAIN US WITH WONDERFUL ROMANCE NOVELS ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS.
