I've been waiting for this soundtrack for many years. I would often watch the film just to here the music. Why so long is all I ask?

Love it. I've been waiting for over a decade for this music to come out. Such a thrill to hear it again.

I have been trying to get a copy of this soundtrack for a few years now. I'm glad to see that it has been released again with the soundtrack for "A Whale for the Killing".
Wind is the "Top Gun" of sailing. Great music/cast/photography! Glad to finally get the soundtrack after all these years. Fans of this music will already have seen the movie, and listening to this CD will evoke all the memories and emotions of watching this great picture! Well done.

Fans of this movie were lucky the day Basil Poledouris walked into USC many years ago intent on studying music. I'm no expert in movie scores, or in music, for that matter, but this CD must be worth any good movie-score library. The selections evoke the mood of each scene and reflects both the majesty and temperamental mood of the sea and sailboat racing. "Windward Mark" is among the best cuts (Though it seems suddenly stopped a few seconds before the end of the selection). Quieter moments are represented in subdued and reflective tones, as in "The Glider" and "The Bike Ride". A peaceful and quiet one-minute piano interlude of "Sail Locker" serves as intro to the inspiring piece, "The Petroglyph". Other selections of electronic music are less appealing.
A few of the cuts, with a continuing refrain and with minimal electronica, actually rival and complement Aaron Copland's best compositions on America. "Dead Air" is as peaceful as a summer dawn on a mill pond. The racing cuts flash with a star-spangled, sparkling vibrance. You can put a 90-piece orchestra behind you, but it takes Poledouris' brilliance to bring it together for a great score to an awe-inspiring film. Thanks to whoever recruited Poledouris for this project.

While this CD is enjoyable, if you are expecting the more orchestral sound from the original picture, you will be disappointed. This album is more like "Basil Poledouris Unplugged".
