More Precious Gifts from a Rare, Much-Missed Artist,
By
This review is from: Wind Blows Wild (Audio CD)
Kate Wolf recorded the title song of this album in her hospital room during her final, fatal illness. Heard today, the song (The Wind Blows Wild) is haunting, evocative, visionary, and a little melancholy--sheer poetry that will make you miss Kate Wolf even if you've never heard her before. Other outstanding cuts here include The Rising of the Moon, Old Jerome, and a studio version of perhaps her most famous song, Give Yourself to Love. This is a lovely album from a real artist, and truly deserves your attention.

Perhaps the technical astuteness of previous works of Kate has been dealt with in a very slightly less meticulous way on this album. However, given the fact that "The Wind Blows Wild" was partially recorded in her hospital room prior to her death explains how much more precious her talent becomes as we listen to the sound of her words, music, mind, heart and soul. There is hope aplenty in this offering. And there is only the remorse of a lover who wishes they had done more with the few moments we are given here under the sun. There is pathos, brilliance, reflection and joy to be culled in the ultimate effort of Kate Wolf. Come, sit for a moment and feel the wind blow across your face and through your hair........

My Personal Favorite,

This was the first Kate Wolf album I listened to, and it is still my favorite. Although I have yet to visit New Mexico, much less, the town, Old Jerome, I can easily picture it - like so many other western ghost towns that have seen recent revival. Kate did an excellent job painting pictures with her lyrics - Rising of the Moon clearly does this - taking one on a canoe/camping journey down an Oregon river. Album has a wonderful laid back presentation - just like she is sitting on the pourch with you on a hot summer day sipping lemonade and playing some tunes.

I grew up during the period Kate Wolf was recording. Was also a fan of folk music. Had never heard of her. My loss. I now have most of her work. She has a way of touching you as all good music should. Her tragic loss was a loss for all of us
