Touching, Insightful and Interesting,
By camilla (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Paperback)
I read this entire book in one evening - because I couldn't put it down. The main character begins as a shadow colored in with each new page into a more vivid, beautiful, and real person. The book closely documents the lives of two individuals as they struggle together to cope and accept a tragedy, and to finally accept and love each other. The story is touching, real, and raw without ever becoming mushy or boring. My favorite aspect of the book was the way the author incorporates her own "diary" with that of her father's, allowing the opportunity to understand each "character" from their own point of view and experience. In short, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to non-fiction lovers, history buffs, and anyone who just wants to snuggle up with a good book.

A must read for everyone,

This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Hardcover)
This story is very moving and thoughtful. It is a must for anyone that has had, currently has or will have the challenge of dealing with a parent's illness. This book is so insightful and at the same time fulfilling. It makes you laugh and then moves you to places only a person's love of their parent can go. A great book for a rainy day, a day at the beach or flying to your next destination.

Touched emotions that I had not felt in years,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Paperback)
I was introduced to The Wind in the Chimes by a friend of mine who had read it and recommended that I get a copy as she felt I would really enjoy the book. I was hesitant as I am not a reader but I thought what the heck I will try. When I received the book, I took one evening to read it. Honestly, I could not put it down. How did she know I had lived these same feelings in my family. I immediately wrote to the author, C.C. Clark, and told her how this book had moved me and that I was going to become an avid reader of other literature and could not wait for her next book. "The Wind in the Chimes" is for everyone and I have recommended this book to everyone I know. Thank you C.C. for helping me deal with issues that I had been stubborn on. Bravo on your first book!

An Enlightening Experience,
This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Paperback)
This author really captured the emotions involved in losing a loved one and I know my life has been changed and I will not allow the moments to slip away without telling someone that I love them. The arguments that keep people apart in reality turn out to be just trivial. Everyone can find some enligthment from this book.

The Wind in the Chimes,

This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Paperback)
This is a lovely, loving tribute from an adult daughter to hernow-deceased father. Ms. Clark shares with us her experiences as a caregiver to her dad during the devasting progression of his battle against Parkinson's disease. And she also shares with us her quest to get to know him better before he passes on. She raises universal questions about the quality of life and death, and how to bring grace to both. The book made me smile, laugh and cry.

This is a beautiful and touching account of a daughter and father. Mrs. Clark has shared a very personal story with charm, wit, and compassion. I have already recommended this book to a friend whose father is also suffering from Parkinson's Disease.

Make sure the box of tissues is handy,

This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Hardcover)
I read this book about a week after my own father died. I cried my eyes out. Some things are just universal; our parents get old; we need to face the fact that after years of them taking care of us, they now need us to take care of them; we need to face the fact that, many times, taking care of our parents is beyond our capabilities. If you are dealing with a parent with a life threatening disease, like Ms. Clark's, or a parent who is no longer able to care for themselves, this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book to all of you who are facing decisions about your aging parents, or for anyone who just needs a good cry. Ms. Clark tells it like it is. She faces her father's downhill journey with heart warming strength. Get this book and get the tissues handy!!

I was overwhelmed with emotion in reading this book,
By Holly Boyle (San Diego, CA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Hardcover)
While reading this book, I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was heartwarming to know that the author and her father made peace with each other after a number of years had passed by. It made me look at myself differently and wish I could get the same result from my own father. It is always very distressing to feel unloved by a parent. But for C.C. Clark her father showed his daughter what a real man is made of at last. Thank God, he made amends before crossing over, and now he can rest in peace and his daughter now understands his love and can move on with her life. The Wind in the Chimes made me think and made me realize how important everyones life is. I would recommend this book to everyone!

This review is from: The Wind in the Chimes: A Father's Farewell Whisper to His Daughter (Hardcover)
Ms. Clark has written a touching account of her father's struggle with Parkinson's Disease, but more importantly this book is a testament to a daughter's perseverance at improving the relationship with her father. As the book progresses, the reader is increasingly aware of the challenges that have plagued their relationship and made it hard to communicate. But the debilitating disease makes both father and daughter poignantly aware of how little time they have left to discover something about each other and appreciate each other. The reader senses Ms. Clark's frustration and the book is sad in parts, but a level of wisdom shines through to remind us all that life is short and family is not to be taken for granted. |
