4.0 out of 5 stars good little windup shaver
this wind n go shaver is amazing. When my last rechargeable shaver died, I searched around and found this. For the price, you get the shaver, a car charger, and a home charger, plus a nice bag to hold it all that even has a mirror.

The build quality is right on the edge of cheap, but it works fine. I've only had it a month. I'm considering buying another one...

3.0 out of 5 stars recharable shaver
It lasted for a while, but it broke. I winded up the charger and the handle broke. It snapped off, so I added a metal wire so I can still charge it.
Before the handle broke, it worked well. I was able to shave and charge with a minute of winding. Its easy to clean and has a nice storeage case.

this wind n go shaver is amazing. When my last rechargeable shaver died, I searched around and found this. For the price, you get the shaver, a car charger, and a home charger, plus a nice bag to hold it all that even has a mirror.

The build quality is right on the edge of cheap, but it works fine. I've only had it a month. I'm considering buying another one to have a backup, because this thing is a gem. I've only charged it once in month. After every shave, I wind it to charge the battery. It gives a good shave. For someone who is on the road a lot, or goes to places where there isn't electricity, this thing is the ticket.

cons:
the plastic head protector shield thing is so cheap it wouldn't stay on the shaver. When I snapped it on, it fell right off. That is really a non issue as it's not needed if I put the shaver in a little pouch.

The shaver heads themselves (which have to be removed to blow out whiskers) are not held on too well. The plastic latches seem a bit under engineered. The head comes off correctly when I press the button to clean it, but I suspect I may see problems down the road. I would have happily paid an extra $20 for better build quality.

Summary:
For the price it is built amazingly well. It shaves great, I never have to remember to plug it in. If it dies, I will come back and update this review.

It's still working. I use it everyday. The windup knob cracked on one side after 14 months of steady use. It still winds up, but I have to treat it gently. The case is getting loose too, so if the windup handle doesn't snap off completely, the case feels like it will open up. Because it comes with both car and house charger, I can still milk it along for a few months. As I said earlier, just a little more plastic in a few crucial parts and this thing would last 5 years. I enjoy winding it at traffic lights, and up in the woods camping. I'm tempted to get another one, cool little shaver!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent shaver!, May 23, 2010

I am one of those guys with a heavy beard that needs to shave a lot. I like my shaves clean, and until the double edged blades stopped being durable and sharp a couple of years ago I shaved with an "antique" "safety" razor because I liked the close shave - and a single double-edged blade would last for months on end with heavy use. One pack of the double edged blades could last for years. When the double edged safety blades went bad (it seems like they made the same step backward that was made forward when chromium treatment of the edge came in), it was no longer that much of an advantage to do the wet shaving thing. Even though modern razors (with like 17 blade cartridges etc.) can give a clean shave, the idea that you regularly "throw away" countless blades (or worse, complete razors) seems like an expensive and environmentally unsustainable way to "scrape your face." Reluctantly, I started using a Panasonic foil shaver I had with poor results. Then I received the Wind 'n Go Freedom Shaver as a gift.

The Wind 'N Go Freedom Shaver is the best electric shaver I have ever owned!

This shaver provides shaves about as close as you can get to a safety blade - failing only in the ability to make a sharp crisp line at the bottom of my sideburns. I love the wind up feature and have only charged it twice (once from my photovoltaic system) in the five months that I have owned it. I wind it for about 20 seconds before I shave and about 20 seconds after. Although the red "charge" light comes on during shaving (immediately unless you wind before you start shaving), this before and after type winding is probably all you need for even heavy use since the second time I charged it did not seem to change this behavior much. The shaver will run at full speed the entire time I am shaving (which can be quite a while because I like to look sharp) and it never ran out of charge while I was shaving. On several occasions I used the shaver without winding first with no apparent decrease in function. The Freedom Shaver is lighter than my foil shaver, and when traveling, you can take just the shaver without the need for cords etc.

The instructions say you need to clean the blades regularly (after every shave if I remember correctly). I realized this would be impossible for me and resolved to just use the shaver for a couple of months until I had a few minutes to deal with cleaning the blades. The shaver was still delivering great shaves when I dropped it five months later - and broke the plastic plate that holds the heads onto the shaver. I never got around to cleaning the blades and this appeared to cause no problem.

The other reviews mention cheap construction etc. Although constructed of plastic, my Freedom Shaver appeared durable and well constructed and probably would have kept working for years if I had not allowed it to slip from my hands and into the grips of a fatal gravitational acceleration. So it is made of plastic. The $235 shaver is almost certainly made of plastic too - but looks like it is made of metal thanks to some kind of high tech plastic metalization process.

I am going to order a new Wind 'N Go Freedom Shaver today!

Thanks for this opportunity to advocate a great product.

I bought this for my boyfriend for camping. It's easier to use and a closer shave than I imagined. Well worth the money.

I tried winding, plugging it into the car adapter and a wall outlet, but it simply would not hold a charge.
