I first heard the tunes on this CD, by Finbar himself at an Irish festival here in the States. He was unknown to us - and probably also to a good many of the audience. But with the first couple of notes from his pipe, and his deep, rich, penetrating voice - we, as an audience were held completely under his spell. I couldn't decide what I liked better - his music, his style or his voice. He has maturity, but certainly not without passion. His music can take you places. He can take a folksong heard over and over again since early childhood - and turn it into the most beautiful, moving piece of music heard in decades (indeed, he did do this - now if I can just find his version of this song on a cd somewhere).

It isn't often that I can say this of a musician that I've heard but once, but Finbar Furey has found a fan for life. I will probably never get the repeat chance to see him live again - but for certain, I will be always on the lookout for any of his new releases.
