5.0 out of 5 stars A SOOTHING BEDTIME TALE, April 3, 2004
This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Turtleback)
Granted, there are a plethora of bedtime stories available, but when someone asks for recommendations "Wind Says Good Night" is usually on my list.

Youngsters find much to enjoy as a chorus of frogs, moths, mockingbirds and crickets all whisper goodnight. The text has a comforting lilt, and the pastel drawings are both restful and amusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully entertaining story, October 14, 2003
This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Paperback)
A little girl can't go to sleep, so the wind asks what he could do to help. And that is the flow of the story ~~ as nighttime winds down to the soft sigh of the wind.

There is a magical quality to this book ~~ one that keeps me reading in delight. (If I have to read these books to my kids, it better be enjoyable for me too!) The pictures are beautifully illustrated. I am now a David Jorgensen fan. And I really enjoy Katy Rydell's writing in this book. It's very musical and lyrical ~~ whimiscal too. It's a delightful book for my children to hear before they go to bed. And the pictures are a joy to behold.

This is one purchase we won't regret buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite, and my daughter's favorite, for over two years!, September 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book for bedtime. One of my favorite aspects is that the text can very easily be paraphrased if needed- the reader can skip over the repeated lines and go right to the answer: "I can't stop shining unless there's a change in the weather." Then when your child is a little older, you can read the entire book as written. "The child", by the way, is never referred to as a girl or a boy, which is nice, so that boys and girls will be able to identify. I'm not sure I agree with the reviewer who said that this child is "restless"- the child simply can't sleep because a bird is singing outside the window, and so the story begins. This beautiful book makes a great gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written and illustrated-great bed time story!!, June 29, 1999

This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Hardcover)
The repetitive text is great for bed time reading and the illustrations are beautiful! I've been collecting children's books for my daughters and the collection wouldn't be complete without this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Bed Time, January 11, 2011
By
This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Paperback)
I raed this book hundreds of times to my two teenage daughters when they were small. I always replaced "the child" (the text does not say "girl" or "boy" though the picture looks like a girl) with their names, alternating from one to the other with each page and saying both on the last one. The words are wonderful, enough repetition to help little ones drift off, and beautiful poetic imagery. I have just started reading it to our new toddler and he already loves it too. The artwork is beautiful too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Bedtime, March 20, 2008
This is one of my top picks for bedtime. The words the author uses are soothing and designed to fall soft on the ears. There's a good amount of repetition, which also helps with getting small ones to fall asleep.
The illustrations are soft and lovely.
I wouldn't do without this one in my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical, June 15, 2007
This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Hardcover)
I have two children, and although it is wonderful to read to your children, it can get boring. I love this book and so do my children, as long as I replace "the little girl" with their names. This is a beautifuly written and illistrated book that is soft and magical. I wish I could remember who gave it to my daughter two years ago because it is our favorite. I never use different voices for characters when I am reading but the cadence of this book is wonderful and I can't help but give the wind a voice. I recomend this book for any child's library and is a great book to give a close friend's or family's child.

This review is from: Wind Says Good Night (Hardcover)
I have read this book hundreds of times and I think that I enjoy it more, each time. This story was written by a storyteller and it shows! Of all the many fabulous books that I have read to my young daughters, this one is a standout. This book is for anyone that loves books that sound beautiful, read outloud.
