Just a delightful set of stories - runs rings around all other versions of Wind in the Willows that I have seen. Couldn't recommend it too highly. Hours of enjoyment for your children (and adults).

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Waiting for Willows, November 4, 2004

This review is from: Wind in the Willows Box Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
These are the stop action animations based on the classic novel, Wind in the Willows. They have nothing to do with the more modern American picture books called "Frog and Toad are Friends". We had loved and watched this high quality British animation series on Canadian television years ago. There was a movie that closely followed the book and then the produers created a series of original stories with the same characters. The stories have a dry British wit and a natural pacing. The voice of Ratty is done by the actor who also did Wallace of Wallace and Grommet fame. Even though our recption was not too great, we taped many of the episodes. Sadly our Beta decks have both quit working and thus we can't watch our old tapes. My husband ordered this set for my 50th birthday in August. They seem to be difficult for Amazon to acquire. They are still on back ordered status. At this rate they will be available on DVD before we get the tape set. I did see an offering of a similar set in a British video catalog recently. We may give up on this one and do that instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best works on television for any age viewer, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
The Wind in the Willows video collection is without doubt one of the highest quality pieces of work for children or adults available on television today. The characters are faithfully transformed to the screen with no loss of depth or subtlety - an accomplishment all too rare, particularly in television created primarily for children. However, the series is equally valuable for the childless adult, and I would recommend it to anyone I know. I cannot add enough superlatives to express my enthusiastic recommendation of these works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, The Joys of Youth, October 24, 2001

I saw these for the first time when I was seven or eight-years old. I had forgotten about them until this past summer when I discovered them again. I am 18 now, but I still enjoy these excellent videos! You can't beat them. I almost hate to say it, but they give me that warm, cozy feeling deep down inside. They will transport you to a different world - a place where all is right, and you feel like a kid again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Telly!, May 11, 2000

Having grown up on this version of The Wind in the Willows I can say that it would be very difficult to find better children's entertainment. From the amazing claymation-way better than any cartoon, to the outstanding actors doing the voices, to the beautiful music, it's a great experience...I still like to watch them, eventhough I've learnt all the morals many times over. With shows like this, Barney can't even compete, although the Wambles come pretty close.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sure to be a hit with you or even any kids you may have!, February 19, 1999
Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall bring alive Kenneth Grahame's best known book. With adorable stop motion animation and some of the best british actors voices I know (Michael Hordern, Ian Carmichael, David Jason, Richard Pearson and others). I have always known this particular version ever since I was small and it is sure to be a hit with you. Be sure to see all of the stories that they ever produced. They really made and enchanting set of tales based on Grahame's work. Including all 4 of the regular Volumes and also be sure to get Four Season set of the Wind in the willows (8 tapes in all). Between the 4 volumes and the four season set you will get a couple of repeated episodes, but it is the only way to be sure to get all of the available episodes out their, but it's certainly worth it. These stories always pick me up when I am feeling down. It's like coming back to an old friend every time I see them. I certainly hope Cosgrove and Hall think about a possibility of making more episodes, and try and bring back what cast voices they can some day, even though it's been a while since these were made. Don't miss these!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Quiet River Life, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Wind in the Willows Box Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I finally found this set. I'd seen an old VHS tape that my brother did and I borrowed it from him again only to find that it was not the best quality so onto the web I went and found it. I really want my kids to see this. I have a daughter that I hope will use this as a transition from cartoons (Veggie tales & Rocky & Bullwinkle) to real stories with longer and more involved plots. I loved these stories and can't wait for my order to arrive. I just hope I can copy them onto DVD so they'll last longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars i can finally feel like a child again, August 19, 2004
This review is from: Wind in the Willows Box Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
i remember watching this as a child on pbs during the summer. it was one of the few channels that i got at the time. good ol' frog and his wreckless ways. it brings me back to fireflies and the careless times that i had. when a part of my generation didn't want to grow up and we relished it. my finding misted my eyes and swelled my heart, even from a us marine. i'm more than sure to buy this jewel and share it with my two young neices so they can pass it along.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful film adaption, December 17, 1997
By A Customer
This boxed set is a collection of short stories for each season of the year. There is one tape for each season with 3-4 short stories on each tape. Each story is wonderfully done, with clay-mation characters and wonderful dialog. To say the characters come alive is an understatement. One would think that stories based on a book as wonderful as the Wind in the Willows would not measure up to the original. But they are interesting, very humorous, and compelling. I very, very highly recommend this adaption. END
