The ultimate concept album, Wind in the Wire is the soundtrack to a western movie that never was. Great singing-cowboy tunes makes this album an instant classic!

Cowboy Country At It's Best,
By
This review is from: Wind in the Wire (Audio CD)
I first enjoyed this album nearly 20 years ago. It's a great collection of 'country-traditional-western-cowboy-songs' and the stand-out track is Paniolo Country. Randy's vocals were in fine form and this Warner Bros release accompanied a movie with Chuck Norris and Burt Reynolds of the same name. Other notable tracks include the haunting title track, about the darker side of cowboy life. The stirring vocals, as Randy sings 'Beyond the campfire light, through the stillness of the night, came the call of the coyote choir, and the song of the wind in the wire'. The album also covers Bob Wills territory with several Texas Swing numbers that include the excellent Roamin' Wyomin' and Cowboy Boogie with it's fabulous foot-warming chorus. As a side note, this is also one of the finest album cover shots of Randy! You won't hear this style of country on the radio anymore, making it an extra special item to own.

Randy's Best,

Maybe it's my predjudice for Western and Cowboy music, but for my money this is Randy's best album ever.
The selection of songs is outstanding and Randy does his best work presenting each number. I wish he would do more in this style.

I got this because of Cowboy Boogie and it was very inexpensive. Not only is it one of Randy's best songs - the video to it is great! Especially if you grew up on Roy Rogers, Rawhide and Bonanza like me. I was pleased to find there was'nt a bad track on the whole CD. Only draw back is it's only 10 songs. I went ahead and got the Randy Travis Anthology because not only did it have Cowboy Boogie, but also "If I Did'nt Have You". These are two of my favorite Randy Travis songs. But if you just want to spend a little money - Wind in The Wire is a great buy.

I agree with a previous commenter - Instant Classic,

Randy Travis is a great songwriter - that's pretty much a fact. Even if you're not a fan of country or western or folk music, you have to admit he's a very gifted songwriter. Many of these songs feel like someone just wrote 'instant classics' or 'new' old cowboy songs.

I saw the TV film "Wind in the Wire" in 1993 or about then. I loved it so much I got the album and am still in search of a DVD of the film. 13 years later and I'm still looking. Must tell you something about how great it is.
