Heats via lightbulb,

Don't confuse this heater with a regular coil heater. This one produces it's heat from a halogen bulb. Therefore, you get a lot of heat for 400/800 watts. It's a nice gentle heat. There is no temperature setting, but there is a timer.
Note, that since it uses a lightbulb, it produces light. At 800 watts, you get quite a bit of light reflecting off the dish. This might be fine for lighting a room but not for sleeping.

This little device is my three season buddy, without which I could not survive. It focuses heat on one unmoving object, namely, you, at your desk or workbench, and makes you tolerably comfortable even if the rest of the room is cold. It will warm up the room eventually -- Today, for instance, it raised the temperature of a modest-sized high-ceilinged room 10 degrees in 6 hours.
There's a lot to like about it. It puts out an equivalent or greater amount of heat at a much lower wattage than some other heaters of its type. And, like the description says, the heat actually is more soothing. It doesn't have a thermostat, so it doesn't keep turning off and on on you -- if you should get too warm, then you simply turn it down or off. If you want to go out and leave it unattended to warm up a room, there's a timer located on a separate knob that can be set for up to two hours. The tip-over switch works extremely well -- the instant it's not on level ground it turns off. You don't have to use the oscillation feature (I never use it) -- you turn the control knob clockwise from Off to run it without oscillation, and counterclockwise from Off to run it with oscillation. It looks nice -- it doesn't look like it belongs in a shop and you can use it in a room with nice furniture. If you use it without oscillation and without the timer it is completely silent. Over time dust and debris will settle on to the reflective surface, and beyond a certain point the unit will overheat and shut off when run at high setting. When that happens, remove the grill (unscrew 6 screws and gently pry the grill off with a flat head screwdriver) and clean the surface and it will be as good as new. I love this thing, and hope that it will always be available.

My living room has three outside walls so it is anywhere from 3 to 5 degrees colder than the room with the thermostat. I was looking for something to augment the heat in that room during the evening hours. This product works perfectly. It cracks a bit when it is first turned on (normal per instructions) but after that it is totally quiet. (I haven't used the timer function - I suppose that might make a clicking sound) I have only used the low (400 watt) setting and it is able to maintain an even temperature when the furnace (gas with hot air delivery) is cycled off. The product has a solid, substantial feel to it and appears to be well made. I would certainly recommend it.
ps: If you have carpeting put a board of some sort under the heater - it has a safety switch underneath it and won't work if the plunger isn't pressed in (which carpeting prevents).

Infrared? I don't think so?,

This little heater is awesome, but the only reason I gave it 4/5 is because it was advertised as infrared, which is *supposed* to be invisible light! This is TOTALLY visible light! For my purposes it's no big deal, but if you want this in your room while you're sleeping or something you're not going to be a happy customer. "Infrared" is misleading. This is a visible halogen light. Otherwise, excellent product.

This was a good price for a SMALL area heater. It takes the chill off of a very small room, or if you are right in front of it.

No replacement element,
This review is from: WindChaser PARHAL66 Halogen Far Infrared Parabolic Heater (Kitchen)
This unit worked well and threw off a fair bit of heat for a couple of years of light use. The oscillation feature works well but the unit also produces quite a bit of orange light which might be distracting depending on what you're doing in the room. The biggest downside to this product is that there is no replacement heater element which I just found out when the unit stopped producing heat and I called customer service. It seems a waste to manufacture something like this where such a basic part can't be replaced to extend the life of the unit.

My wife and I purchased this for our living room as a supplemental heating source. Although it worked well for several months, after the 4th month the timer on the unit quit functioning. This means that the unit is essentially an on/off unit. Other than that, it has been fine. It actually works much better in our guest room which now gets quite toasty. Without the timer this unit is not as efficient for use so watch out for those electric bills!

I purchased one as a gift and one for my own home. We both are amazed at the amount and pleasantness of the heat output from this heater. This heat concept was new to both of us, and I did not want to sink large amounts of money into something so unknown. We are so pleased that we are considering larger units for our homes. And this review comes during one of the coldest weeks we have experienced in years!

It is more a light than a heater . I concur with one of the reviews from another customer , that it is at best a leg warmer .More disturbing is the cost and the hassle to send it back. Absolutely worthless.
