5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Nice Sounding Guitar Album......, August 26, 2005
By
This review is from: Windflower (Audio CD)
featuring two artists whose styles complement each other very well!

Remo Palmier, a.k.a. Palmieri, is not exactly a familiar name...but could well have been! He played in the early 40's with the likes of Red Norvo, Dizzy Gillespie, Charley Parker and Coleman Hawkins, dropping out of club work and becoming a studio musician because of health problems. The two guitarists have a similar sound but Ellis has a little southwestern twang to his. Palmier can be heard noticeably on any Latin tinged solo while Ellis reverts more to a direct four.

The program is a varied one ranging from a minor blues on the title tune, standards, a couple featuring a Latin beat and a couple of familiar jazz tunes, "Walkin'" and "Groove Merchant". The set showcases their excellent talents as guitarists as well as the supporting rhythm section, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Ron Traxler.

This album was followed up by one named simply "Remo Palmier" which has never been re-released on cd.

Anyone who enjoys good guitar will appreciate this album. There are a good variety of tempos in the program which would mainly be described as relaxing or a good background for a small social gathering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Herb & Remo:the perfect guitar duo, December 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windflower (Audio CD)
I just received my copy (CD) of "Windflower." I bought this as an LP about 35 yrs. ago. There were three reasons for my giving up reeds & becoming a pro jazz guitar artist myself. Charlie Christian, Tal Farlow & Herb Ellis. I studied under Chuck Wayne in Staten Island, & later with Herb Ellis in Texas. I was taught theory by my father who played clarinet, alto & tenor sax. As for the album, what can you say about the beautiful music? Herb was always at his best when he played in a quartet of two guitars, bass & drums. His best work, & I am not denigrating this CD in any way, was with Joe Pass, Ray Brown, & Jake Hanna. My three favorites are windflower, Danny By & Groove merchant. To describe the actual music would be impossible. All I can say is buy it! If you like jazz guitar, you'll surely love this Concord offering.
