4.0 out of 5 stars Good but limited introduction...
This is a fine, though limited, introduction to the soundscapes of Mark Isham. These compositions tend toward the New Age-y (produced, as they were, on the Windham Hill label) but show signs of Isham's jazz and pop backgrounds. Those familiar with his work in soundtracks will enjoy the beautiful (though rearranged for CD release) music for "The Times of Harvey...

3.0 out of 5 stars One fabulous piece, the rest not what I wanted
Although Mark Isham's music is pleasant, I was disappointed that it was more electronic than I was looking for. I had heard a song that I loved and it was based on that beautiful piano piece that I purchased the album.

This is a fine, though limited, introduction to the soundscapes of Mark Isham. These compositions tend toward the New Age-y (produced, as they were, on the Windham Hill label) but show signs of Isham's jazz and pop backgrounds. Those familiar with his work in soundtracks will enjoy the beautiful (though rearranged for CD release) music for "The Times of Harvey Milk." It's too bad that his subsequent jazz recordings and other film music (such as "A River Runs Through It" and "October Sky") aren't included here. His trumpet-playing adds warmth there that these mostly electronic compositions sometimes lack. In short, this is a fantastic buy for the price, and a worthwhile introduction to a talented musician too often heard only in the background at the movies.
