Engelbert's 'Brits' album,
This review is from: The Winding Road (Audio CD)
The Winding RoadEngelbert 's interpretations indicate he is still in fine voice and can match it with the best. The album's cover artwork in my opinion is very poor and the front picture of the artist is certainly one of the worst I've ever seen.Overall I'm a big fan of Engel's earlier Decca and European BMG recordings of the 60's,70's, 80's & 90's because of their orchestral accompaniment. His later recordings including this one lack the UMPH !!!! to go with his powerful voice. Not a bad effort however.

"Best of the Brits",
By
This review is from: The Winding Road (Audio CD)
"Here's to you...and here's to me...and here's to the Brits and their wonderful words and melodies". Engelbert uses this toast in the notes accompanying the CD to express his feelings about this 40th anniversary masterpiece. It is obvious that he puts his heart and soul into every song and shares a personal comment about each to give insight into its meaning in his life. It is a family effort as Scott is the Associate Producer, Louise and Bradley do background vocals on several songs. The accompaniment is extremely well done and Enge's voice is superb. This is a must buy for everyone who enjoys "The Brits".

Best of the Brits? Humperdinck is Best of Them All !!!,

This review is from: The Winding Road (Audio CD)
So here I am sunbathing in October and listening to my radio. The next song I hear is "South of the Border" and boy is it Beautiful. The arrangements and vocal delivery are superb. I know it's Engelbert but I am a bit stunned he would choose that song to sing but I realize quickly why he did. It's a great great song. When I finally hear the entire album I start to think Grammy-Nod. Why? Every is cut is fantastic and Enge delivers James Blount's Good- Bye My Friend in such a way, as only he can, a tear starts to fall. So, get this CD it is one of his finest and listen to the Where is Love? Winding Road Delivery, none finer. Engelbert, Please don't ever quit. You are irreplaceable and Truly The Best Of the Brits and Best of them All.

I know Engelbert without question is one of the greatest vocalists ever to live but this CD leaves you longing for his more powerful albums. He seems to be doing a tribute to fellow Brits songs and while he adds his trademark romanatic baritone vibrato to the songs (especially on Wonderful Tonight)it still comes across as a shadow of what he is actually capable of. Goodbye My Lover is the best cut on this one and he improves Woman vocally as he does a few others but all in all it feels as if he is just paying homage to songs he likes for personal reasons and he never quite wraps himself around the project fully. Do not judge Engelbert on this Cd alone---buy Engelbert Humperdinck Gold for the real deal.

ENGELBERT DOES IT HIS WAY!,

When Engelbert sings a song it is unique. There is no copying, or trying to imitate another singers version. Whether the song is "Release Me" from one of his very first albums, or "Goodbye, My Lover" ~ from his 77th album, the song is sung his way. There is no need to follow the style done by the original artist. With the range Engelbert posesses, and the perfect diction, the way he caresses the lyrics in a love song, or the spark he can insert in a happy song, and the ability to sing a sad song with such feeling that the listener will actually need to wipe away a tear or two, the song becomes an Engelbert song. On this particular release, 'The Winding Road' Engelbert has chosen songs by a variety of artists. Yes, they are all British, and each song is very different from the next, but this collection as interpreted by Engelbert becomes a classic ~ a story told with a compassion that very few singers can match. While spending some time in the UK recently, I had the pleasure of attending Engelberts performance in London. At the Palladium no less, where it all started for him, 40 years ago. It was a powerful performance, and he sang a few songs from this latest release, each song very different, but whether it was 'Every Breath You Take' ..or 'Where Is The Love' ~ ...... or my favorite, 'Goodbye My Lover'..... the song was sung with such emotion that one could almost visualize a scene in a play or movie. It is one thing to listen to a song on a CD, and another to see it sung live, by the same person, and no one does it better than Engelbert. So yes, I give this album ~ The Winding Road ~ 5 golden stars, and if anyone buys a copy on my recommendation, I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do. After listening to this album, should you find that Engelbert is appearing somewhere close by, by all means purchase a ticket, and you too will see what I mean. This album is indeed, the Best of the Brits, and the Brit I have in mind is Engelbert Humperdinck.

The Long Winding Road of 40 Years,

Ah, he did it yet again! Enge can take anybodys song and make it his own, along with 40 years of fantastic hits, this new one just continues to show his great talent, and that God given voice. Take all of that and add just one "Hell of a Great Guy", and you have the "King of Romance". I would highly recommend this new CD "The Winding Road". One of my favorites on the cd is "The Living Years", so touching, and with his son Brad singing backup. You can't miss with this one!Just a note, Engelbert is SO much better looking than that cover photo, in person Marilynn Sacker Michigan

Winding Road by Engelbert,
This review is from: The Winding Road (Audio CD)
Engelbert's Winding Road cd is absolutely fantastic! I have played it several times and simply enjoy every track! I own most of his cds and dvds. I have seen him in concert in Atlantic city twice and thoroughly enjoyed both shows. I would love to see his November appearance at the Tropicana in Atlantic City if at all possible. He is THE best performer of all times! He puts such feeling and emotions into his music. Congratulations on your 40th musical anniversary! Sincerely, Barbara
