THE PLOT: Assistant State Attorney Bruce Lane (George OBrien) is ordered to serve a subpoena on the prosperous Commodore Selby (Brandon Evans), requiring him to appear at a senate enquiry. The time he finds to do this is not an opportune one. He signs on as a deckhand aboard the Commodores yacht during a yacht race that will lead across the Pacific, with Hawaii as the final port of call. As fate would have it, the Commodores craft is wrecked by the windjammer of weapon-smuggler Captain Morgan (William Hall). This effectively puts Lane in the thickest part of a rapidly thickening plot. The Commodores entire crew is captured by the marauders. Their high-society balloon is quickly deflated when they are drafted into enforced onboard labor. What makes it personal for Lane is the fact that the Commodores gorgeous daughter Betty (Constance Worth) is among them. Her presence triggers a hidden cache of chivalry and swashbuckling enthusiasm within him.

Turning The Tables,
This review is from: Windjammer (1937) [Remastered Edition] (DVD)
Now this is the type of film that Holywood never seems to make anymore. I wonder why? People my age would go back to the movies in droves if we could see more family friendly fare like this.
This one is particularly satisfying because it shows how the tables can be turned on theieves and , ruffians and bad guys and that if you just wait, fate will make sure that everyone gets what's comming to them in the end. It is a strong moral lesson and one that today's young people would be better off if they heard it more and more often - instead of the type of modern movies where the bad guys seem to win. The main plot point is that a robber barron heads off to the high sees in order to avoid getting arrested for being a theif and a criminal. Almost as soon as he is out on the water, however, pirates raid his ship and make him work for them. He soon finds out what it feels like to have peopel steal from hiim and I sure puts some thought to how the people he stole from must have felt about his bad deeds. There is a lot of intense pirate footage and the sea is very well shot. I reccomend this film to anyone who wants to see a classic holywood swashbuckler film with a modern moral message.

Fun Pirate Movie,

This review is from: Windjammer (1937) [Remastered Edition] (DVD)
Fun on the high seas! Sword fights! Guys in tight clothes! Shenanigans on the high seas! This movie has everything you want in an older pirate film. It's surprising because it doesn't start out as pirates. Instead a guy has to serve court papers on a sea captain, so he sneaks on board as a deckhand. But then, in a plot twist, the boat is attacked by pirates and the two guys end up fighting together against the bad guys while sailin to Hawaii. It's a ridiculous plot, but is good fun to sit down and veg out with. I liked it alot.

Buyers beware any title that is distributed by Alpha I must state they have the best graphics to advertise the title but the absolute worst print material taken from beat-up 16mm prints, believe me the public is under the impression that if a movie is old they make allowances for the scratches and splices thinking oh well its old,not so other companys have better print material. Alpha sells pure junk.
