Ok, so it's a Pygmalion sort of situation. I have fallen in love with my own "invention." As a former teacher of the deaf, I noticed that my students loved playing the old MECC software "memory" game. I remember my little red-headed student, Amber, clicking on the word "tooth" and "brush" and being delighted when she made a match. The problem? The sight words "tooth" and "brush" were not in her recognizable reading vocabulary as yet, and she had no idea she was creating the new word "toothbrush".

Watching Amber, I thought, "I wish I had control over this content." I knew the kind of games I would make for Amber and my other students if I had this capability. I would add words that were merging into her recognizable sight reading vocabulary and pictures to match. I'd make a game of vocabulary from new units we were studying or of content that was motivating to her.

And so, with the help of a seasoned software developer, I did just that. He and I created our OWN computer "memory" game. Before long, our company decided that we needed to make this game customizable for EVERYONE. Voila', we have Computer Game Maker-Lite - an easy-to-use, do-it-yourself, inexpensive piece of software that allows the user to add his or her own content, pictures, and even voice! My former colleagues in Speech Pathology and Deaf Ed. find this software easy to use and the games they create, motivating. We even have had businesses purchase Computer Game Maker-Lite for employee training. Computer Game Maker-Lite is an off-shoot of our older Computer Game Maker. The LITE version is focused solely on the memory game, has the capability of adding voice with mp3 files, and is easy to use! That's why we call it "Lite". Our newest version also has a choice of "card backs" and screen background colors, to make games that are appropriate for all ages from pre-schoolers to life-long learners!
