About the Author
Thomas Kier is a California native. He finally decided to get serious with his writing in February, 2010 and produced a novel-length work as his first effort. Scared by what he found within himself, he promptly joined the California Writer's Club to figure out what to do with it. His first published novella is based on a character from his novel, and is not quite as dark. He has a loving family that is not too badly scarred by his vivid imagination. They think he's pretty cool. Thomas is still writing, mostly in the dead of night.
Thomas Kier was born in California, and has lived his life there, aside from childhood summer vacations when he traveled with his family to various destinations across the US. After high school, he attended three semesters at Mt San Antonio College, then rebelled against his better judgment. The full-time working world promised the glamor of independence.
He held a variety of jobs in the retail and trade industries, and ended up driving a truck across the country. The travel satisfied him, but the schedule did not. His wife and two kids required a more stable life than the traveling lifestyle provided.
When Thomas finally decided to listen to his heart and start writing seriously, using a bizarre dream as a starting point, he astonished himself by completing a novel. The subject matter was another astonishment to him, but his curiosity about one particular character led him into his second work, a novella that actually preceded the first one to publication. Both books reflect a dark fascination with human motivations that are less than admirable.
Thomas has benefited greatly from his association with the High Desert branch of the California Writers Club and with other writers of all genres and experience levels. He is always looking for his next inspiration, realizing that one's writing redefines one's outlook on the world.

He also has blogs http://kiersquill.wordpress.com, where he talks about his road to publishing, and http://scatteredshards.wordpress.com, where he just talks about life to people like himself whose lives aren't one big happy picture.
What is in Carmen's past that haunts her dreams and disturbs her relationships with fellow school mates to the degree that she requires counseling? And why does Sandy command such control over Janice, Brian, and Josh? And why does Sandy want so desperately to destroy Carmen? In this thriller, Thomas Kier slowly builds the emotional anxiety around these issues until everything snaps with jarring suddenness, sending everyone involved into spiraling madness and psychological terror. Who survives the terrifying gyre? Let me just say, "What does not destroy you, may just cripple you."
