3.0 out of 5 stars "Window Licker" single is lost without the video, May 22, 1999

Never thought I'd say this about ANY Aphex Twin song... but "Window Licker" needs the visual to be truly appreciated... a vicious swipe at every current poular music video cliche. By itself the song seems incidental... Not a bad song, but again, you're better off spending the extra couple of bucks and buying the video.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good/Bad Song, March 21, 2000

Lurking beneath all the twisted screaming synths and nerve-shredding warped beats, there dwells an extremely calm, soothing melody. So why has Aphex ruined a top-ten hit (aided by an MTV Europe advert using a 20 second snippet of the 'soothing melody' part) by chopping it up into noisy pieces? I can only imagine how many thousands of people bought the single after hearing it on the MTV ad, brought it home, gave it a listen and then hid the CD at the bottom of their collection (like me). A modern musical genius (check out 'Analogue Bubblebath' for proof), but a tortured one at that.
