I don't know, but I'm wondering the same myself... If you find out, let us know! (=

If it doesn't you can just run a virtual machine with XP.

I am using AoE I, II, and III on a Windows 7 machine.
The only problem that I occasionally have is that the program can freeze during start up and require reboot of the computer.
I don't know if this is specific to my particular machine or Windows 7.
Regardless, it rarely happens.

How did you get AoE to run with Windows 7? I've tried many times and all I get after installing is the program isn't compatible with Windows 7.
