5.0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 for Dummies Quick Referenced
An indispensable book for the beginning Window's user. The key is Quick Reference. The new users of the Window's Operating System (yes they are out there) find thick techno, computer terminology reference books boring and have trouble relating to them. 2.0 out of 5 stars If you have your Windows 98 manual, you won't need this book
I bought the quick reference looking for short-cuts or tips, and there aren't any in this book. There isn't anything in "Windows® 98 For Dummies® Quick Reference" that isn't already in your Windows® 98 manual. Save your money, or better yet, buy a magazine subscription to a PC magazine instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 for Dummies Quick Referenced, May 30, 2000

An indispensable book for the beginning Window's user. The key is Quick Reference. The new users of the Window's Operating System (yes they are out there) find thick techno, computer terminology reference books boring and have trouble relating to them. I fell in love with this book the first time I needed to reference it because of it's no nonsence, plain english approach to shortcuts, changing icons, and customizing your destop to your needs and tastes, just to name a few. It gives the beginner a starting place without boring background history about how the operating system and how it works, how it began, in what year, etc. It also builds the confidence of the first time user so they can buy and use more detailed IDG Books with great ease. Now, with that being said, it also makes a great reference book for those of use who like to think of ourselves as advanced users of the Windows Operation System since we have used this system at home and college for 13 years. I was and am very impressed. I give this book as a present to all my friends, co-workers and family members who get or work on their first Windows based PC.

Although this book does contain some valuable information,I dont think it's as quick as some may hope.I think this book would be more useful, to someone setting up their very first computer system. If you need instruction on how to use your mouse or acess a web site, this book is for you.Besides all the information you need to correct most problems is already in your computer, learn how to acess that and your on your way. With things changing as fast as they are and each little computer problem being so specific, I dont think any one book could answer all your questions anyway. Now get out there and prove your not a dummie
