Osborne's MCSE Windows NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise Study Guide is a thorough and able study guide for one of the core Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE) exams. The Enterprise exam covers NT 4 implementation and administration in an enterprise- wide system, where an enterprise is a multiserver or, potentially, a multidomain structure served across a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN).

This well-written guide can also act as a basic introduction to Windows NT Server 4.0. Based on a training series established by the Global Knowledge Network, this book covers step-by-step basics of the concepts needed to pass the exam. The book provides hints and sample tests throughout. Two-minute drills at the end of each chapter allow you to quickly review the material. You can also follow the various examples to get some hands-on training.

The included CD-ROM contains an HTML version of the book and electronic sample tests. The interactive self-test and the links after each sample question to the relevant sections of the book are especially helpful. Instead of searching for reasons that an answer is wrong, you are able to click on the review link.

After reading this book, you should be able to understand the underlying NT concepts and be able to begin basic administration tasks--and, of course, you should be able to pass the test. For more in-depth knowledge of very specific areas of NT, other books should be sought out, as this book retains a tight focus on preparing you for the test. It's tooo simplistic. Very few things are explained well, especially TCP/IP and subnet masks. Although it's not a specific MCSE book, I found Mark Minasi's book on NT Networking (Server?), more thorough and understandable.

I hope the CD is of more help in passing this test.

All the Osbourne-McGrawHill MCSE books are outstanding! I already had Microsoft product experience and was able to pass all the MCSE exams in 3 weeks with these books. They're great!

This one is ranked #2.

A good choice... but I wouldn't try to pass the exam using only this one study guide.
