Just what I needed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows XP Home Edition! I Didn't Know You Could Do That... (Paperback)
I already knew the basics of Windows XP. I didn't want to have to suffer through a book that showed all the beginning steps of everything so this book did not disappoint me. Ms. Gookin jumped right in with project after project. Don't buy this book if you need hand holding baby steps. And don't look for long in-depth explanations of Windows. This is a down and dirty, get a project done book.

Surprisingly Helpful,

This review is from: Windows XP Home Edition! I Didn't Know You Could Do That... (Paperback)
I wasn't sure what kind of book this would be since it has a goofy cover, but the information inside is NOT goofy. Ms. Gookin is thorough and very helpful with her presentation of information. This project oriented book contains enough tasks and information so you can easily learn a lot more about Windows XP and accomplish some fun and helpful tasks.

I knew from the cheesy cover of this book that it was going to be an enjoyable read. Unlike some of the XP manuals I've thumbed through and discarded, this book doesn't read like Chinese and there's no "technical jargon" to bog you down. This guide explains simply and to the point. I literally lol at the author's kooky sense of humor. One of the best XP guides I've come across yet.

Very Project Oriented!,

This book is a great book for learning how to apply very nifty programs and tricks to Windows XP. This book already assumes you know the basics for running XP but shows you how to do more than you thought you knew how to do with it (thus the name). It is also very project oriented and really goes from one step to another, making sure you understand. I really enjoyed reading this book too. Ms. Gookin puts a lot of humor and enthusiasm into her work and puts computers (a dull subject anyway) into new humorous light. Thank you Ms. Gookin!

Silly, sloppy, and snooty,
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows XP Home Edition! I Didn't Know You Could Do That... (Paperback)
There is a little bit of good stuff in the book, granted, but it's hard to find and it's not nearly enough--there are gaping holes in information and what is there is organized poorly and not logically (I had to keep flipping back and forth through the book to find what I was looking for). I'm a seasoned Windows user and was looking for something that would help me learn the differences and new features of XP vs. previous versions...but I might just as well have saved my money and used the XP Help files to learn. The author tries to be funny or cute and ends up just sounding silly instead, and sometimes the jokes or comments are condescending as well. If you're looking for a helpful, informative, interesting book that will help you learn how to use XP, this is NOT it.

I know a little about Windows XP, but had a difficult time putting the tools together to do fun computer projects. This book was a tremendous help! If you have basic Windows XP knowledge but want a boost in your productivity, get this book!
