Written for the Senior Systems Administrator..great choice!,

This review is from: Windows NT TCP/IP (Paperback)
If you want to go deep into Windows NT and TCP/IP this is the book that will take you there. I found it goes far beyond the basics of what most books cover. As an MCSE I can tell you that if you want to be an "NT GOD" then read this book! It covers all the important aspects of using TCP/IP in a LAN/WAN environment, but also includes GREAT in depth topics such as DNS, IIS (Web and FTP), and PERL on Win32. Where else are you going to find all of these topics covered in one book? This is not some cheezy 800 page book of fluff with 3" margins and huge pictures..if you want that then keep on searching. This is a professional, well laid out, to-the-point book on Windows NT and TCP/IP. I hated New Riders' MCSE books - they were horrible. The new Landmark Series are great and for the first time I feel a publisher has finally found the recipe that O'Reilly uses and added some spice to it.

Not nearly as good as the O'Reilly book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows NT TCP/IP (Paperback)
I saw the mixed reviews on this book and went over and checked the ones on O'Reilly's Windows NT TCP/IP Network Administration by Hunt & Thompson. I didn't want to buy both so I went down to B&N at the mall and sat on the floor reading through them. The O'Reilly book is much better. This one is a typical New Riders book. In other words, not as as good as the O'Reilly. I wonder if all the anonymous reviews for this one were really written by the author. This isn't really a horrible book, but if the O'Reilly book deserves 5 stars this one only deserves one.

Wonderful, wonderful Reference/amazing beginner's Guide too,

The attention paid in this book on IP Itself is worth praising, too many books hand you too little of everything to be of any real use. I have found this to be superior to the Oreilly book, even though that is a fine book in itself. I have read Comer's books on IP itself, and no wonder its the yard stick in IP books, that of course gets a little too detailed or abstract in terms of "what can I use now" for some. Karanjit nails the issue of IP and NT with authority and precision for a reader on a beginner to medium level. Unless you want to really get into hardcore IP, or even if you want to, this book is great as a good "getting started" Guide and also as a confidence builder for someone new at this, given that NT is showing up everywhere, the reader can try the small utilities as she goes to see what all this on paper is about in real life. Looking forward to its 2000 Edition.

Karinjit Siyan's approach to teaching is amazing. I have read alot of TCP/IP with NT book, but none are as good. If you truly want to learn about NT and TCP/IP, this is the book.

Disappointing. Get the O'Reilly book instead,

This review is from: Windows NT TCP/IP (Paperback)
Amazon gave this book it's networking title of the year for 1998 but it's hard to see why. The book is shallow and disorganized. It covers a lot of topics but doesn't give enough detail to get the job done. O'Reilly's Windows NT TCP/IP Network Administration covers the same material and does a much better job of it. Another reviewer implied that this book was "just as good as an O'Reilly." It isn't.

The book rocks,

This review is from: Windows NT TCP/IP (Paperback)
The book covers lots of topics, but doesnt tend to stray away from tcp/ip. Also , it explains all of the terms used in the book before you read the chapter. It is an excellent book. It isnt much of a resource kit, rather it is more or less a book that you could read in front of your terminal or over drinks. If you love oreilly books, you will love this book . It is a book for both the beginners and the intermediate. I give it ten stars.
