5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference!!
As an MCSE for over two years, I have read countless other texts on NT Server with much disappointment. After flipping through this book the first few minutes after receiving it, I knew this was the one I had been looking for. It covers pretty much everything I cared to know about and is probably the last book I'll buy on NT Server 4. Thank you Dr. Siyan!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Book writen for NT3.5, hastily updated and badly edited
Despite what other reviewers have said, I felt riped off after paying for this book. The Guy's a Novell fundi and dosen't seem to like NT. Topics covered are not complete and where they are covered it seems to stop short of providing the detail I've needed to solve particular problems.

I have read it cover to cover - there are masses of sections which have simply been...

I have read it cover to cover - there are masses of sections which have simply been cut & re-pasted - often without changing all sentences in the the re-pasted text for the next topic. Plenty of typo's and diagrams in the wrong place. Makes getting the info tedious.

Good discussion of the ISO Network layers in the appendix

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book to have for supporting NT 4.0, August 21, 2001

This review is from: Windows Nt Server 4: Professional Reference (v. 1) (Hardcover)
Excellent! This is the book to have for supporting NT 4.0. This is the book to have for supporting NT 4.0. I never really understood permissions in NT until reading this book.

I have read a great deal of books on NT, and this is my favorite. It has detailed coverage of NT that I reference frequently when dealing with difficult scenarios. The author is, in my mind, one of the best you will find when reading about Networking in general. If you want a book that goes deep under the hood - own this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is not a book for system administrators!, April 27, 1998

This review is from: Windows Nt Server 4: Professional Reference (v. 1) (Hardcover)
I was looking for a NT reference manual, what I got was a users guide. This book covers NT at a surface level at best. If you are looking for an NT reference for your system administration library, keep looking, because this is not it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every professional should have a copy, December 24, 1997
By A Customer
Siyan Karanjit has done a real good job. Explains every detail of NT with a very clean grammar: no possibility of misunderstanding. The subjects are accompanied by neatly prepared, self-explanatory figures and graphs. One of the parts I liked best is the case study section at the end of each chapter. Every professional must have a copy of this book. Having read this book, you'll realize in fact how limited your knowledge of NT is. Karanjit includes in this book not only the technical facts, but also recommendations and tips that are born out of his experiences. I guess this is the most important fact which differentiates a "book" from a "manual".

5.0 out of 5 stars The mother of all NT books, August 19, 1997
This is one of the best NT reference books out there. Even Microsoft has not topped this one in terms of thoroughness and quality. Toss out those flaky books that give you a nice overview with 1-line explanations. This explains everything you want to know fully

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book! Required for every WindowsNT Professional!, June 1, 1997
By A Customer
If there is one book in my technical library that is the most beaten up, the most torn, the most dog-eared, the most grungy. It's New Rider's WindowsNT Server Professional Reference. I was first introduced to it by a friend who recommended it also as "the most used book on my desk!" It is without question, the *best* reference book I have ever read for WindowsNT. It is clear and concise and provides thorough information on virtually every topic that I as a WindowsNT network administrator need to know. An ideal compliment to this book is Inside WindowsNT Server also by New Riders publishing. That book provides more basic information for beginners, whereas this book is ideal for someone familiar with the basics who needs a reference book for those late night sessions at the office

I liked this one. After reading through so many NT books, I chose this one for its depth and breadth. Given that they're all the same, this Gold Monster at least gets the details right. Wish I could say the same for the stuff Sybex publishes.
