5.0 out of 5 stars Installed On MacBook Pro
As background, I'm a heavy personal computer user but certainly not a techie. I'm an insurance and real estate broker in Houston, TX. I would rate my technical knowledge as medium.

I bought the 64-bit builder pack to install on a new MacBook Pro. Followed the Apple Boot Camp instructions and was up and running in less than an hour. Couldn't have been easier...

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware Of System-Builder Version.
This version is the one that a manufacturer would use... like Dell or HP. It comes only with a sleeve type envelope and no owners manual. You may not get support from Microsoft with this version because comps that come with this version would be calling the manufacturer of their computer for tech support.

Couldn't have been easier. Love the MacBook Pro but one critical business web site only supports IE Explorer and several others have issues with Safari (plus Chrome, Firefox and others as well). The builder pack has all the features and is sold for a clean install on a new computer. It was exactly what I needed.

Running both Windows7 and Snow Leopard for me is the only way to go. There's some keyboard differences but nothing significant. I may try Parallels 5.0 down the road but Boot Camp works fine for now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Windows Yet and Easy Install, January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Home Premum 64 Bit System Builder 1pk [Old Version] (Software)
I brought this for my dad as a Christmas present. Buying an OEM version means that it will not include any drivers specific to your system - if you don't know how to load your own drivers or don't want to bother, you should buy the upgrade directly from your system manufacturer (ie Acer, Gateway, Dell, etc.).

I wanted to install the x64 version to allow 64 bit versions of software run - and to allow better memory access above 4 gigabytes.

The install went very smooth - and my Dad was up and running in about 30 minutes. I went through a breif tutorial of the new features in Windows 7, as well as a tutorial of how Live MovieMaker and Photo Gallery work as well as how some of the new features work - like jump lists and the various libraries.

He's not very technical, but he caught on fast and likes Windows 7!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Windows OS Yet, June 26, 2010

I bought this and did a clean install on a self-built Core 2 Quad machine. It was running XP previously, and I wasn't entirely happy with the performance - I thought it was kind of clunky and not running up to the machine's potential. Turns out I was right. I'm quite pleased with the ease of installation and the performance of this 64 bit OEM version of Win 7. It is faster, and multi-tasks much better than XP on this machine. I am VERY happy (:

I've used both Windows and Mac OS for many years - Windows solely because I had to at work. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of Mac users aren't blinded by the brilliance of Apple. Most of us are simply practical - we like tools that aid our productivity. To that end, Mac tends to usually work better for me.

When I started to use Windows 7 at my new job, I was impressed. I actually enjoyed using it... as I have all along with Mac. It seems stable, quick, MUCH more intuitive. That low-level stress that always accompanied using Windows, that feeling like it was going to crash at any moment, has all but disappeared. I purchased Home Premium to install on my MacBook Pro. Boot Camp made the install eerily painless. I've had absolutely no problems with it since installing a month ago.

Well done Redmond!

I installed this on my Macbook Pro using Bootcamp and parallels with no problem at all. I converted to Mac in 2009 and felt it was time to finally switch from XP to Windows 7 for my virtual drive. I think Windows 7 is a much better product all in all.

- Speed is greater than XP when running on Mac.
- Runs better with Parallels Desktop.
- Interface is easier to navigate and more visually pleasing.
- Search functions are faster and provide better results than in XP.

I can't think of any way that XP is superior to to Windows 7 off hand. However, I still think Snow Leopard is a far superior operating system, hence the 4 star rating.

Recommended.

The best windows /64 that I have used, for people having problems remember that this version MUST be installed on a clean hard drive partition you can not upgrade from any previous windows, and you must have a computer capable of running the os. I do lot of video editing and format conversion, with xp it would take 1 1/2 hours for a final edit, win7 /64 does it in 45 min. all I can say is get it you won't be sorry

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another skeptical convert loving Windows 7, August 5, 2010

Bought this item as part of a custom built Intel Core i7 Processor i7-920 2.66GHz 8 MB LGA1366 CPU BX80601920 system with OCZ OCZ3P1333LV3GK DDR3 PC3-10666 1333 MHz 3GB Platinum XTC Triple Channel Kits for memory. Snapped right into the case with no problems. Used the (EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR X58 SLI Mainboard) in this build inside the 10-Bay ATX Computer Case with 550W PSU & 9.84-Inch Blue LED Fan.

I was ready to hate Windows 7 from the moment it launched. Unfortunately the features added make it well worth the upgrade from XP. This OEM system builder DVD worked perfect in a custom system. I don't care that I can't install it on a new PC because I don't plan on upgrading the motherboard any time soon. By the time I do Windows 8 might be out.

Building a system? Just buy this. It will be just fine for what you need. Later, there's the anytime upgrade to add more features if you really need it.

I really like the speed with which Windows 7 starts up, shuts down, and does everything in between. This is the best Windows OS I've used so far. Installed on a laptop that used to run Vista. What can I say? The differences are so great, there is no comparison. If anyone is still using Vista, I strongly urge them to switch to Windows 7. Go ahead, give it a try. You will not regret it. Like so many people said before: "Windows 7 is what Vista should have been!"

4.0 out of 5 stars A easy way to save a few bucks vs buying this in a retail package, September 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Home Premum 64 Bit System Builder 1pk [Old Version] (Software)
The first DVD that arrived was defective, this was no fault of Amazon, and they took care of it right away with no problems what so ever. As for the second one that arrived, it installed on a three year old 1.6ghz duo core system with 1gb of RAM with no issues at all. It found all the drivers and boosted the performance of that old budget system considerably. This is a much better way to buy a copy of Windows than paying extra for a 'retail' package. You get the same software and if it ends up not working, you are not out as much money. This has also got to be the easiest version of Windows to date to install. Anyone with any level of computer knowledge can install this without worrying about giving it the wrong settings.

Pros: Less expensive to buy, simple to install.

Cons: 64-bit doesn't always work well with certain software, such as some Adobe products and other programs.
