4.0 out of 5 stars Great reference, well written, and over all Great Book
I found this book very informative and a great help as an NT 4.0 MSCE. It really helped in the field. Unfortunately, I would have liked to have had information on Network Load Balancing, clustering and other Advanced Server information. This book has the best Active Directory information around but lacks the advanced troubleshooting information we all need. Guess what,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bible?
Found a few incorrect things in the book as it relates to operations masters. Not sure I would rely on the information as a study book. Has a few good tips though. Leaves out detailed information in some areas. Most likely will return the book.

Guess what, no other book gives you that either and I guess all these books were written when AD was still new. So I emailed the author and found him very responsive. Over all, I think it's a great written book. Looking at the authors of the book on Amazon.com and seeing my edition, I don't know who these other guys are but my version was written by Jeffrey R. Shapiro and Jim Boyce. Keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great detail, super book, October 11, 2000
This review is from: Windows 2000 Server Administrator's Bible (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
I found this a great reference for Windows 2000 Server. It covered the Active Directory in quite a bit of detail, and had lots of practical examples for designing and setting up domain structures. All of the other major features such as Dfs, DDNS, interoperability, redundancy, etc., were all covered in good detail. If you only pick one 2000 Server book, this one will do the trick. The level of coverage and the detail are excellent. These guys know their stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money!!!, June 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows 2000 Server Administrator's Bible (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
This is by far the most disorganized book I've ever seen! Pg. 298 talks about burning in a new server before setting up the Active Directory, and for this it says, "you can use Backup/restore as discussed in Chapter 5." So I re-read Chapter 5, and there is NOTHING on this Bup/restore method for burning in the server. Also, on pg. 298 it talks about the procedure described in appendix B. Well guess what... There is no appendix B!!! There is only a single appendix that explains the contents of the CD, and nothing else!!! I wish I had seen a review like this one before wasting my time and money on this book!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Brochure and filled with untrue statements, June 26, 2001
By

This review is from: Windows 2000 Server Administrator's Bible (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
In this world where many discussions are held over Microsoft vs Unix this book is a bad example. Many good things can be said about both operating systems. But this books tells many things about Unix that are untrue. I read the dutch translation but nonetheless: The book claims MS Windows 2000 is without a doubt the most secure system. This is one of the largest discussions going on so claiming that this is without a doubt is for sure untrue. Furthermore, it claims Unix is unsafe as it is open source. Unix is NOT open source. Linux is open source. And many claim it is saver because it is open source. Conclusion: it is a biased book which reads as a Microsoft brochure.
