I was pretty disappointed with the material that covered DNS. This is major section of the exam, and this is what made me fail twice. I barely failed both times, but the DNS questions were much more complex than what was covered in the book.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience with DNS because our org doesn't use Windows DNS, so I think that hurt me, too. Someone with a couple of years experience with DNS might do fine, but try to get another source if you don't.

The book covers the information but does not lay it out in a form that is clear and concise. I will give you an example. The FSMO roles that DC's host can be seized if absolutely necessary, causing you to reformat the server. However it does not go into these in any reasonable detail. It skims the surface and leaves much to the imagination on what can be seized without messing things up and what can't, like the PDC role that can be seized but does not require a reformat of the original server.
Also the software that came with this book is BAD. I would say 90% of the questions are accurite and should be believed 100% however there was a question on FSMO roles like the one above that blatenly stated that if a PDC role is seized that the server must be reformatted completely. That is completely WRONG and both the Exam cram book and the microsoft references acknowledge that as being incorrect. So don't trust the sample tests from the software that comes from this book!

The worst!,

This is without a doubt the worst 70-291 preparation guide in the entire world! I know this sounds very absolute, but you are not getting any value from this book at all. Just don't waste your money and get something else altogether.

I would recommend this book to anybody that is about to take 70-291. I would say a word of caution though about this book. It is truly intended to be a suppliment to actual training from either a interactive self-paced class like Test Out or Prep Logic. If you try to pass the 70-291 with this book alone you may run in to difficulty. Also, I would recommend exam insurance from Microsoft if your testing center allows it.

I would not even give this book ONE star if I had a choice! Although some people state that this book may be informative and easy reading, and one poster even stated that it helped him pass a DIFFERENT exam, it fails miserably in preparing you for the 70-291 exam. The book should have been titled "Some really really basic Windows Server Infrastructure info and JUST BARELY scratching the surface of the 70-291 exam!" The book was short and easy reading and I aced all the questions at the end of each chapter. But when I took a real practice test by SelfTest software, I got 5 questions out of 50 correct on my first try. NOT A GOOD START for the exam which I wanted to take next week. The questions on the practice test that I got wrong were NOT even covered in any respect in the book. I've passed 70-290 and 70-270 and I can tell you that I know what to expect from a book and from the MS tests and this book does almost NOTHING for you in regards to the exam. Sure, it may be nice reading and it may have some interesting info, but if you are planning on buying a book to prepare for the 70-291 exam, SKIP this one.
I am going to reschedule my exam for a few weeks later and buy a REAL book!

I wouldn't recommend this book to prepare for 70-291 test. It doesn't cover DNS and subnetting very well. IMHO, Microsoft's Self-Paced Traninig Kit for 70-291 is a better choice to prepare for 70-291 test.

Other reviewers seem to have chosen the wrong book to review for some reason. I find it hard to believe that they can write a competent review on any book given the fact that they can't perform a simple search and post more than a few sentences on how they dislike a book that if read for one exam is probably not going to have a great deal to do with the other. Seems rather silly to me.

Willis and Watts have put out a great Exam Cram for the 70-294. It hits all the highlights of the exam including Flexible Opeations Masters, Global Catalog servers, and Group Policy objects. The book's content is very faithful to what you'll need to know to pass the test. I used it with a larger study guide. Highly recommended.

I used this EC2 book along with another training guide to study for the 70-294 exam. It really hits the highlights from Flexible Operations Masters, to Global Catalog Servers, to Group Policy Object. Very faithful to the actual content you need to know to pass the exam. Exam Cram has done it again. Highly recommended.
