Good, but could be better,
By Justin Burton (Toronto, ON, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: MCSE Windows Server 2003 Core Training Guide (Exams 70-290, 70-291, 70-293, & 70-294) (Paperback)
So far I have only read 70-290 (just started on 70-291). I like the layout of these books; they are very un-cluttered with screen shots and notes in the margins. The text is well written and easy to read. Unfortunately there are a number of mistakes and typos which I have emailed Que about. Their executive editor has assured me that they will check them out and place corrections on the examcram2 website. The worst of the problems is that the section on EFS is missing (although it is mentioned in the first chapter and a few details appear in the fast facts section in the back). So you will need to check the Server 2003 help files or look online for information on this feature (having said that I did not get any questions on it in the exam - but *you* might!). I only just passed the 70-290 exam using this book - it's tough. You really do need to know everything inside out as the exam threw up questions on even the most obscure aspects. I suggest lots of lab time, revision, and look at other sources of information (Reading the reviews of other publishers 70-290 books, I get the impression that they are not totally comprehensive either.) Over all I have been very happy with the book. The EFS ommission is bad, but you can find all you need to know in the server 2003 help files. I just hope there are no other omissions in the rest of this set! Another thing to note: The copy of PrepLogic on the accompanying CD is way out of date (even though it says otherwise when you use the update feature). You must download the latest version of the application from their web site, otherwise you end up with a load of duff questions. 70-291 has been very good so far, but I've only just started it.....

This box set has been very helpful as a reference guide. For instance I needed to schedule a task and I forgot when where and how, I read it first and completed the task directly. The books are easier to understand than say a Microsoft written article...take that for what it's worth. Regardless this was a good purchase for me and I would recommend them.
