A very well written book by a very good author, November 6, 1999

This review is from: Windows Sources Microsoft Access 97 for Windows SuperGuide (Paperback)
I bought Liskin's book because I needed to get up to speed really quickly on Access 97 for a 6 week contract and needed a book that would cover most of the things I would probably encounter and need to know how to do on the job. This book delivers that in spades. I don't know about the really advanced aspects of Access and am not really interested in them either as I work mostly in Oracle and SQL Server, where any large systems use these databases as the backends anyway.

Very useful for beginners and casual Access developers., January 11, 1999

This review is from: Windows Sources Microsoft Access 97 for Windows SuperGuide (Paperback)
A handy book. It's good for people who just started to use a relational database tool like Access and also for those who need to catch up with the new features of ACCESS97 that weren't available in earlier versions. An expert in Access, as well as anyone who wants to become one, hardly find anything new and useful. Even though the guide claims to aim at the whole spectrum of users, from new, to casual, to intermediate, and all the way to expert, it fails to showcase all that ACCESS97 could offer. Too bad, because it is in the more complicate operations that ACCESS97 reveals its power. Yet, while Liskin can teach old developers new tricks, she is very thorough in every fundamental aspects covered in her book. Even if you know nothing about computer, have no idea what Windows95 is, you won't be lost in this SuperGuide. With clever sectioning, the thousand -something pages seem not so daunting for beginners and provide quick, helpful reference for more advanced users. After all, this is a "SuperGuide," not another plain, cold manual by a big software company.

I read the book, then developed a program for a legal firm., September 24, 1998

This book does not assume any prior experience with database software. It does assume that you have a basic understanding of computers. Part I of the book is an introductory to Access 97. Part II builds on Part I and provides a conprehensive guide to Access for intermediates and advanced users. The CD which comes with the book develops an application that is usable. You are encouraged to develop the ACE (Association for a Clean Earth) application for yourself. After doing this I was able build an application that a legal firm is now using. The ACE application and the one I developed from it mainly uses macros rather than VBA language. The book introduces you to VBA programming, but you will need another book to go further in VBA.
