2.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad intro
Covers the basic concepts well. However, if you're looking for something indepth, or need help with a complex installation, keep looking. This is a fairly thin treatment of thin client solutions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book, February 22, 2000

Very good book if you are new to thin client technology. Covers new installation very well and has some excellent tips on setting up TSE and MetFrame. Also covers common pit-fall areas like user profiles and directory security. I passed the CCA exam but would not rely on this book as the only source. Get exp. with the product.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking at implementing a thin client solution. I am reseller of the thin client product and have made this book required reading not only for my technicians but sales personnel as well. I found that the overview section in very comprehensive in describing the concept behind thin client technology. I have also purchased three extra copies of this book for clients who are considering the use of this technology in their environment. By do so I find that the sales education time for the client is significantly reduced and the client feels they have a better understanding of the individual components.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction, August 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows NT Thin Client Solutions: Implementing Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame (Paperback)
This book is excellent as an introduction to what Metaframe can do. Buy this book if you're thinking about installing it. Don't buy it if you already have a Metaframe installation; this book is not a reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and expert "Thin Client" deployment information., December 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows NT Thin Client Solutions: Implementing Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame (Paperback)
Windows NT Thin Client Solutions is a ground breaking look at an emerging and increasingly valid technology. This technology addresses many enterprise concerns regarding application deployment issues and zero administration initiatives. This book provides a complete strategy for implementing this "Thin Client" technology.

Over the past three years the "Thin Client" approach has matured into a viable NT based enterprise solution for deploying client/server and other business applications, (email, web browsers, office suites, emulators), to both LAN based and remote users.

Covered in this text are planning, deployment and administrative insights that are based on extensive and intimate experience. Previously, this type of information could only be acquired through an often time consuming trial and error approach, on an individual, site specific basis.

As a consultant of this technology for over two years and 70 plus production installations, I recognize the presentation of this text as an insightful step by step project overview, (with certain details truely sight specific). The supplemental information, which includes many Author's Note sections, other tips, and the invaluable appendix sections, are important time saving resources that will be often referrenced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book, July 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows NT Thin Client Solutions: Implementing Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame (Paperback)
This book has not only helped me understand Terminal Server, but has also become a familiar reference for me to turn to time and time again. I would suggest this book to the TS beginner to be used in conjunction with TS/Metaframe class materials. If you are familiar with Citrix then you will still benefit from this book because it refers you to some of the similarities and differences between Citrix and Terminal Server. Finally, this book provides excellent instructions for setting up user profiles and policies which can be a nightmare if you are unfamiliar with this aspect of the TS technology.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter book, great reference book, December 7, 1998
This review is from: Windows NT Thin Client Solutions: Implementing Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame (Paperback)
This is a good review of pretty much everything you need to know to get started with Terminal Server and Metaframe. I especially like the appendix in the back listing all command line options, toggles, and whether they are native to Terminal Server or Metaframe. I'm not sure why Amazon lists this book as not available yet; I bought it at the local bookstore last week. Overall it's a good book, but it's no replacement for following the Microsoft newsgroup threads and reading about real-world problems and solutions.

This review is from: Windows NT Thin Client Solutions: Implementing Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame (Paperback)
This book was given to me as a resource while I took a class in Citrix Metaframe. It was invaluable and I would recommend it highly to any network administrator doing Metaframe over NT 4.0.
