5.0 out of 5 stars an excellant book
This book is about a boy growing up. The main character's name is Josh. When a new school teacher comes and teaches things that don't agree with his religion Josh faces some hard decisions.Should he like the teachers daughter even though she isn't a Christian?Should he sacrifice his education for his beliefs? This story is beautifully written through the eyes of Josh.I...

The camping trip just seemed like a good idea to Joshua. He had no idea that the journey it began would test the convictions and beliefs at the core of who he was.

The Winds of Autumn deals with anger, loss, grief, and forgiveness in a tale that is both heartbreaking and edifying. While the book does contain fighting, injuries, modest interest in girls,...

5.0 out of 5 stars It was so captivating, I just couldn't put it down!, May 17, 1998

It is mainly of a boy growing up on a farm and all of the hardships he encounters along the way of growing up. Aunt Lou, who has played the part of his mother ever since his parents death, is also growing up. I think anyone is interested in reading a wonderful, family related book this is the one.

This book was a very good book by Janette Oke, as with ALL her books it was delicious. I only wish she wrote more. I think I have read every book she has had published. They are very good, clean, no profanity is used. I enjoyed reading her books.

The camping trip just seemed like a good idea to Joshua. He had no idea that the journey it began would test the convictions and beliefs at the core of who he was.

The Winds of Autumn deals with anger, loss, grief, and forgiveness in a tale that is both heartbreaking and edifying. While the book does contain fighting, injuries, modest interest in girls, awareness of childbirth and death, all appear in a non-graphic manner that is appropriate for all ages. The overriding message is complete submission to God.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Sequel to Once Upon a Summer, April 11, 2009
The whole town is surprised when the school teacher up and leaves to get married -- in the middle of the school year! With this unexpected break from studies, 15 year old Josh and his friends decide this would be a great time to take a hiking and camping trip...but their trip doesn't turn out exactly as they planned!

After a few weeks, a new teacher is located and classes once again resume. With the new teacher comes a new student (the teacher's attractive daughter), Camelia, and immediately all the boys are enamored with her. Josh becomes acquainted with her and her father (the new teacher), but when Camelia and Josh start studying the books in Camelia's father's library, Josh comes across some confusing new ideas. Ideas that contradict the Biblical teachings that he's heard all his life....but Camelia and her family whole-heartedly believe these strange new ideas. Josh becomes confused and starts to doubt his faith....could these new ideas possibly be true, or is the Bible right?

This book didn't manage to hold my attention quite like "Once Upon a Summer" did. While it was enjoyable, it just didn't seem to have quite the charm that the first book did. It's probably just because the story elements here didn't entirely appeal to me: the camping trip, and then Josh's confusion with creation vs evolution. However, this is a critical portion in Josh's life, and definitely should not be missed if you plan on reading the whole series.

This book (and the rest of the series) has a good, clean story that would entertain most people of any age -- young, middle, or old! This series would also be a good one for families to read together.

2.0 out of 5 stars No strong storyline / plot ....., February 9, 2009

This review is from: The Winds of Autumn (Paperback)
Novel spends 12 months in the life of fifteen-year-old Josh Jones. I was disappointed that novel had no well developed storyline / plot. However, I enjoyed the characterization of Old Sam, the town drunk, and how Josh's Uncle Nat (town pastor) was persistent in seeing that Old Sam was taken care of. I also thought Josh's great-grandfather (aka Gramps) did a marvelous job of helping Josh analyze the Darwin theory of evolution in Chapter 17.
