Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Coming in 2015- Set Fire to the Rain, which will be last and final book in this series!
Please note that Winds of Betrayal Series is not a stand-alone series.
It is my hope that you will be swept up in the American Revolution saga. Enjoy!

About the Author

I'm a Southern gal that has lived the last thirty years near Boston with my Yankee husband. The funny thing is that as a Southerner I know I'm Southern; he hasn't a clue he's a Yankee. I believe in love and the power it holds. It is the reason I write romances.

My fascination for history has inspired many of my books including the Winds of Betrayal and Tide of Charleston Series both set during the American Revolution. I have released the first two of four books in the Southern Legacy Serial, a Civil War saga: Belle of Charleston and Shadows of Magnolia, to be followed by Born to Brothers and The Sun Will Rise

I, also, write under the pen name Colleen Connally. Secret Lives, a historical romance series, is riddled with romantic suspense and a touch of paranormal. Fragmented, Book One Boston's Crimes of Passion, marks my first contemporary suspense thriller.

I am also a supporter of The Home For Little Wanderers in Boston and the Alzheimer's Association.

I really liked the story line of the first book is why I bought the boxed set to read the rest of the story (at least that is what I thought). But, was very disappointed when I got to the end of the last book to find that none of the questions/problems had not been answered/solved. Instead it said another book would be coming out and it was adding another story line to it. I am not a big fan of book series so this was very disappointing.

About the Story: Hannah Corbett had always felt that it was unfair that she wasn’t born a man. Her father believed that liberty be for all and had instilled those beliefs in his four children, including his only daughter Hannah. Hannah, growing up with her three brothers, learned to ride and shoot better than they and most of the boys in Williamsburg, Virginia. These qualities along with her passion, wits and survival instincts would soon stand her in good stead in the trying times leading up to America’s independence.
She was soon to wed Gabriel Witherspoon, a very good friend of her brother Jonathan. He was as much involved in the coming rebellion against England as her own family. She loved Gabriel and worried for him, but knew he was safe with her brothers and they would watch each other’s backs.

Brit Marcus Durham was sent to Williamsburg by Hannah’s grandfather with instructions to bring her to New York. Marcus found her at the ball at her parents’ home eavesdropping on an important meeting being held in her father’s study. He found her on the terrace listening intently. He surprised her and himself by sneaking up behind her which ended with kissing her soundly with a fervor which produced pleasurable sensations for Hannah far exceeding kisses from Gabriel. But kissing Marcus was kissing the enemy.

This is a story about families pitted against families each believing in what they did was right and justified. It was also a time of not daring to trust anyone you knew for fear of retribution. It was a time of losing those dearest to you for believing in freedom for all. And for Hannah and Jonathan, it was a time of revenging their family.

In this remarkably turbulent time in American history, Jerri Hines manages to incorporate many face of life. Love, friendship, war, betrayal and espionage to name a few. Ms. Hines manages to capture the emotions felt by families at war against one another. A worthy read. I am looking forward to the next book.

I had already purchased the first book in this series--you can find my review on it if you'd like. I loved the first book, so when I saw the three together, I jumped on it.

I totally felt like I was right there in the midst of the fighting/spying/loving/hating. I loved reading about our country's beginning--and the author did a great job telling the story of the Corbett family. I enjoyed how she weaved different characters together--and although each book focused on different people, they were still mentioned in the other books, so it kept you thinking of all that happened in the other books.

I have always had a huge appreciation for what our forefathers, and thousands of fighting men, did in order to found this great nation--reading this series adds to that appreciation.

My only complaint, as I stated in my review of the first book, is the editing. I thought it would get better after the first book, but unfortunately, it's almost as bad in the second and third ones. The author stated that books one and two were edited by Mary V. Welk. Then the third book was edited by Faith Williams, The Atwater Group. So I can't even say a new editor is needed, as two different people did the editing. Apparently editing is not considered important in ebooks as so many I've read have so many errors. You don't find those errors in "old fashioned" print books.

However, the stories themselves were so excellent, I couldn't see taking a star away due to the editing--and I always take a star away if the editing is poor. I would really appreciate an update with better editing, though.

Love this set of historical romance! If you love and enjoy reading historical romance set around the American Revolution. It has depth and the surprising turns and conflicts will keep you reading just to find out what happens. The individual books can be stand alone reads but knowing there is a series which supports all the characters are a plus. The Cry for Freedom sets the stage for what the siblings will face in the coming upheaval in their lives. The characters of Rebekah, Jonathan and Black Rory are well developed and believable in Kiss of Deceit. The fateful decision that Hannah Corbett makes in Embrace of the Enemy will keep you reading to find out what befalls her. If you have a love of deceit, passion, spies and more, you need to read these books!

This box set of three books was very good! It was very well written and I love the time period! The characters were great but the pain each suffered is terrible. If you are looking for happily ever after you are not going to find it in this box set. I like the first and third book better than the second. I liked Marcus' character until I found out he is married. I hated what happened to William and the kid's father, John. So much tragedy, the title is very fitting. It ended with a bit of a cliff hanger so I am eager for more in book four. I am hoping for the HEA! Great series!
