Windtamer,
By Thomas P. Blades (Federalsburg, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Windtamer (Audio CD)
I am a Native American Flute Music enthusiest from Federalsburg, MD and I love this CD. I first learned of Jeff Ball through Trailhead Flutes. I purchased several of his tapes and CD's from his previous label. These tapes were to assist me in learning to play the flute. Since that time I have met and talked with Jeff Ball and Dr Red Hawk, who is featured on this album, at the Damascus, VA pow-wow last year. Knowing the person and listening to his music makes the difference in your perception of the music . I have an insight to the person, and the spirit of Jeff Ball is in his music. I would suggest to any Native American music listener to add this CD to his collection. If you have never experienced the sounds of Native American flute music, this CD is the one to start with.

Best Solo Native American Flute playing CD out there.,
This review is from: Windtamer (Audio CD)
As of yet I have not had the good fortune to meet Jeff Ball but I sincerely hope to some day. I am a Native American Flute Maker, teacher and performer. Jeff plays with more heart and emotion and talent than anyone else I have experienced and it comes through beautifully on this CD. Be informed that in the intro and between songs are tracts of chanting, and Native philosophy spoken word. However, there exists a true harmony in this Cd as a whole which opens a persons heart and uplifts the listener in a very spiritual way. It is so dificult to find really good NAF Solo performances on CD and in that regard this is the best out there! Also, Jeff co-authored with Bruce Whitten an instruction booklet with CD tittled, "Trailhead of the American Indian Flute" that is the best most strait-forward learning manual for those interested in learning to play this most sacred instument. You do not have to read music to play this flute or to use his manual. It is probably one of the best and easiest instruments to learn to play and amazing things can happen when a person gets personally involved!

Windtamer,

This is an excellent selection if you like Native American music and legend and the cedar flute. Jeff's performance is excellent, as usual. Although I enjoyed the spoken words, they detracted from the music in some places. I didn't like this CD as much as Reverence because I like the flute to be uninterrupted. It is, however, an excellent piece of work and would be a nice addition to any collection.
