This is a beautiful CD. Bla Pahinui plays music to honour his Father, Gabby. Gabby Pahinui was a legend amongst Hawaiian Slack Key Guitarists. The songs are mellow infusions of R&B with Slack Key. The stories between the songs told by Bla demonstrate the fondness still felt. As with all the Slack Key releases on this label, the notes contain a wealth of information about Slack Key, Hawaii, and the songs. If you are interested in Slack Key Guitar music, or a son's tribute, this CD will interest you.

This live solo performence is a unique blend of hawaiian slack key and rhythm and blues, played with the control and heart of a master blues craftsman. A totally diffrent sound in hawaiian music that R&B fans will love.

Bla in his own Right, April 10, 2007

Bla has a unique, instantly recognizable guitar sound. No one else sound like Bla. He picks his guitar left handed and upside down, so his thumb does the melody and his fingers play the bass. His voice, too, is unique, and wonderfully conveys the emotion and soul in his songs. Yes, you can hear some of Pops in him, but appreciate Bla's music for its own sake. You cannot go wrong by purchasing any of his CDs. He treats a mele with honor, dignity and respect. Mahalo, Bla for sharing your music with us.
