Product arrived well packed and unbroken. Chimney fits standard wine bottles and not much else, requiring a neck of at least 2.5 inches long. Wick is rather short at 10 inches and lacks about 3" from reaching the bottom of most wine bottles. But I filled one with oil and gave it a try. Wick needs to be just poking out of the hole in the ceramic stopper else one gets a lot of smoke (yes, I am using some decent lamp oil). Takes some fiddling to get it set to a compromise between length of flame and soot production. But that only needs to be done once. Cotton, it also needs to soak for about a half hour in the oil to function properly. In an attempt to get around the short wick problem, and not need to maintain a full bottle of oil just to reach the bottom of the wick, I tried various other, shorter bottles such as a long neck olive oil bottle, an unusual premium beer bottle, basically anything approaching the correct shape and mouth opening. All failed for one reason or another. The olive oil bottle's neck was too short, causing the chimney to effectively rest on the bottle's shoulder and thus block the flame's air supply, the nibs that center the chimney precluded the thing from getting around the slightly fatter bulge in the beer bottle's neck. Thus two stars off: One for the wick that should be 3 to 4 inches longer, one for the chimney neck portion being about 0.75 to 1 inch too long to use other interesting bottles.

First of all this is a great idea. Bought this for a wine bottle that I just couldn't toss given my husbands joy at having found it in a well stocked cellar at a local restaurant. The bottle opening is about 3 centimeters at its narrowest (outside edge to outside edge) but the next ring down on the bottle is where the chimney just stops. It doesn't fit onto the bottle neck. Tried several bottles; all the same. The problem: there are 2 sets of three blown glass "centering bumps" inside the chimney neck. These bumps are uneven, do not keep the chimney centered and prevent it from actually sitting more than a half inch on the neck of the bottle. I clink-clink-jammed it on the bottle neck and shattered one of the blown glass bumps so now it fits onto the wine bottle for the length of the chimney up to the second set of bumps-below-the bell. Not how it should work if you ask me. If your bottle has any part of the neck over 3cm, do not buy this product. Additionally. it SMOKES BLACK SOOTY smoke. I am going to have to find a fiberglass wick to replace this cotton one. It has been sitting for over 45 minutes, I soaked the wick prior to inserting with clear lamp oil and the wick is less than 1/4 inch above the top of the ceramic wick holder and it still SMOKES horribly. It cannot be used til the wick gets replaced with fiberglass. This is a great idea but what a disappointment. Try another brand or some other supplier/manufacturer.
