Emmery, a real estate broker who claims to have made everpy tour she describes in her book, offers a treat to adventuresome cyclists who want to explore some of California's finest wine country. Using San Francisco as a starting point, she describes rides ten to 30 miles in length and designed for all levels of riders. Although most of the rides can be accomplished in a day, the author lists information about unique hotels, inns, B&Bs, resorts, and campgrounds that may be of interest. Her directions are extremely easy to follow, and she often presents alternative routes for difficult parts of the ride. Her focus is on wineries?don't expect detailed descriptions of the towns passed along the way?but her information is some of the most descriptive found anywhere. Along with maps, Emmery provides addresses, phone numbers, and operating hours, with tips and information on California bicycle laws. This easy-to-use guide deserves a place in the collection of any serious cyclist, especially those living in or planning to visit the areas described.?Joseph L.
