5.0 out of 5 stars Something For Everyone from the Joe Cocker of Country!, October 16, 1998
This review is from: Wine Into Water (Audio CD)
From the Memphis-Motown horns of "Accept My Love" to "Keep Me From Blowin' Away", a slow country ballad with Marty Stuart on mandolin, there's something for everyone in this collection . "Hide And Seek" features the T-Bird doing a rollicking Jerry Lee Lewis. "Memphis Women & Chicken" can only be described as Creedence Clearwater Meets The Blues Brothers; the guitar riff is straight out of Born On The Bayou on this great little toe-tappin' tune. "A Better Word For Love" is a slow Beatles-type ballad; the T's voice lacks his traditional grain, but is surprisingly tender. "Livin' On Love" (not the Alan Jackson version) is a rockin' bluesy number that cain't nobody sit still on -- the funky horns and guitars make up for the slightly weak vocals. "How Do You Know" is a southern Gospel-type number featuring Delaney Bramlett (of the legendary Delaney & Bonnie) on dobro and backup vocals. This number features a sweltering organ and background gospel choir. This entire collection features that great trademark growling voice that makes T. Graham the Joe Cocker of Country. But it is the title song, Wine Into Water, that makes this CD worth the purchase. For years, T. Graham was afraid to perform this song (which he co-wrote to chronicle his battle with the bottle). Finally he was persuaded to record it, and it's great that he did. This melodically perfect number -- which is sweeping the country -- is the only song that made me cry the first time I heard it. You can just hear the prayer in T Graham's voice as he begs his heavenly Father to help him in a battle that no man can win on his own. All in all, Wine Into Water is a strong group of unforgettable songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars "T" IS BACK!, September 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Wine Into Water (Audio CD)
It is such an honor to be reviewing this cd, because:a)"T" is one of the nicest guy I ever met, and b)it's been far too long...This is a killer comeback that takes it's place proudly along side his previous incarnations, and fits perfectly between your George Jones and Delbert McClinton discs. His voice is still a unique blend of smokey country, soul, boogie and blues, and the title song is one of his all time best.If you remember "T",it's time to get reaquainted, and if you've never heard "T",it's time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific comeback effort, September 9, 1998
By A Customer

This is great, greasy country soul -- the type of stuff that T. excels at. And the title song is one of the most touching, provocative numbers that T. has ever written. Welcome back, his T'ness.

This whole CD is inspirational! It has music to make "up" days better, "down" days tolerable and touching moments even softer and more meaningful. Of course 'Wine Into Water" is the ultimate inspirational song.

I was spellbound by T. at his live concert at the Silver Saddle in Cincinnati. This album takes me back there over and over. My CD changer has 5 spots; this album or Greatest Hits is ALWAYS one of them. Thank you T.
