Book Description

July 15, 2010

For true oenophiles, there is discipline, devotion, and strict traditions to follow. For the general population, oenophilia is simply "the love of wine". By nature, wine lovers are collectors: bottles, vintages, countries of origin, and more. Wine Lover's Devotional is a year-long collection of insight and eclectica for the passionate wine lover. Each day of the week is given a wine-themed category: Monday: The Language of Wine; Tuesday: Wine Grapes; Wednesday: Wine & Food; Thursday: Putting Wine in its Place (Wine Geography); Friday: People Make Wine, Wine Makes People; and Saturday + Sunday: Weekend Wine Adventure. Wine Lover's Devotional uses hundreds of years of tradition, tasting notes, recipes, colorful trivia, and intriguing histories to inspire the oenophile in all of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars 365 Days of Must Haves!, January 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wine Lover's Devotional: 365 Days of Knowledge, Advice, and Lore for the Ardent Aficionado (Hardcover)
I was excited to get my new wine book and felt that I might be disappointed because it had to have pretty high standards. Let me tell you that I just love this book! It is truly 365 days of must have knowledge, advice and lore. I wouldn't say you have to be an ardent aficionado because even the dabbling oenophile would appreciate this book.

There are lots of trivia, tidbits, recipes on Wednesdays, history, definitions, etc. It's just a plethora of wine knowledge. It's listed a day at a time but without a specific date attached to it. For example, day 129 is labeled a Wednesday so it includes information about food. This day is about chocolate and the pairing of wine and chocolates. So this devotional doesn't necessarily follow the exact dates of the calendar year but it doesn't need to in order to use the book. Another example, day 25 Thursday (geography day) which details an area of Italy known as Veneto and highlights its wines and wineries. Day 180, Friday (people) highlights Charles Shaw...iconic Two Buck Chuck! It's so much fun!

There is also a satin bookmark included to keep track of where you are. It's a nice hard cover book, pages are thick, embossed, pictures are well done, the print is easy to read...honestly I can't wait for next years' book! You will have no reservation about giving this as a gift. It's quite a beautifully bound book.
There's a picture on page 177 that is of three different colored wines with fall leaves and I think I'm seriously going to have to tear the page out and frame it!
It's gorgeous.

Here's the breakdown: Monday: The Language of Wine; Tuesday: Wine Grapes; Wednesday: Wine & Food; Thursday: Putting Wine in its Place (Wine Geography); Friday: People Make Wine, Wine Makes People; and Saturday + Sunday: Weekend Wine Adventure.

Look for it then say "Cheers"!
